Why is Assassin's Creed (2016) Such a Bad Movie?
This is a super hard topic. It has a ton of things wrong. But fans are just mad, especially because this is a video game adaptation! You might be surprised, but it's been getting worse as time goes on!
How Bad Is This Video Game Movie?
- Michael Fassbender, that’s an actor that most movie fans love, was the lead in the movie - but it had a really awful Rotten Tomatoes rating - just 18 percent, that's a terrible movie rating! It made so much money, too, so that's a major flop. People just don't like this one!
So What Went Wrong?
Assassin's Creed - the game - it's pretty awesome, so it has these cool characters, historical settings, and those amazing action sequences - but that’s all they forgot to include! What the Assassin Creed movie did is give us a real-world storyline. It’s like what if someone gets into this futuristic, super secret Assassin organization, right? So, it had a very different feel - nothing like the games!
- And guess what, we have those amazing video game adaptations that have really wowed fans, such as Sonic The Hedgehog! You've gotta see those movies if you are a fan! But those movies embrace those funny, awesome game-world elements, like what you see in the games. Assassin's Creed did the opposite - trying to get really serious and realistic! That’s what made the movie so dull - and people did not like it,
- If they wanted it to be a sci-fi, that's one thing, but they tried to be a historical epic movie - you know, that classic feel, but then the story felt generic.
- And if we are being honest - they should have made those Assassin's Creed 2 movies to be more exciting like the video games!
Was It Just Boring?
We have a bunch of really famous actors, like Michael Fassbender Assassin's Creed, and Marion Cotillard - so it should be epic. And it should've been really exciting - after all, the whole Assassins vs. Templars theme! But this was totally a let down. They really did not get the story right. Those "good versus evil" stories that most of us are so used to seeing in games and movies! There were even cool historical times. But the action and story - they both went wrong! It should have been more fun - more like what you'd see in a sci-fi drama movie.
- It was kinda confusing to understand how they built up that world.
- I know that some movie adaptations aren't exactly like the game, but those games are about the worlds, they are huge! We gotta thank the director of Uncharted because those worlds felt real!
- If we wanted more of that epic, historical stuff, Assassin's Creed should have really embraced it! It could've been a lot more immersive.
If they had a chance to do it all over again, they need to stop trying so hard to be "realistic". Those games have that awesome, crazy side to them. Maybe if they embraced the funny stuff - the cool powers, the out-of-this-world action! - that's how it could actually have a chance to be a good video game movie. This one is on the list of worst video game movies, and it shows how much those movies can flop. You can really learn from this, as a movie fan - we need better video game adaptations! Maybe someday, there'll be a good video game movie - that is a dream. It'll be the day those films come back in the spotlight. Hopefully, a future Assassin's Creed movie won't end up the same as this one.
