Viggo Mortensen has had an incredible career marked by steady hits. Although his name is most known from acting, he has also ventured into music and direction. Still, Mortensen's whole film career has been marked by compliments from both critics and viewers, and over the past ten years he has had an incredible run. Since 2012, he has not had a critical letdown; his lowest score since came from 2020s Falling, with a still-impressive 67%. His films are so highly regarded that Green Book won the Oscar for Best Picture.
Audiences have been somewhat less positive of his work; The Two Faces of January earned less than 50% and Jauja and Crimes of the Future earned exactly 50%. Dead Don't Hurt ranks at just 60%; Eureka was not scored. Still, Far From Men, Captain Fantastic, Green Book, and Thirteen Lives have all scored over 70%—an outstanding achievement considering these letdowns. Although Mortensen may be appealing to certain reviewers, audiences usually see his past ten years of work favorably.
The Dead Don't Hurt, Viggo Mortensen's most recent Western film, carries on a ten-year running Rotten Tomatoes streak.
The Dead Don't Hurt is carrying on a fantastic, ten-year Viggo Mortensen run. Dead Don't Hurt, a Western with a limited release in September 2023, portrays a pair of lovers surviving the Civil War. Released generally on May 31, 2024, Mortensen directed, wrote, and starred in the film. Although Dead Don't Hurt has some bad reviews, most have been rather favorable.
The Dead Don't Hurt chronicles star-crossed lovers on the western U.S. frontier in the 1860s. Strongly independent Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps) starts a relationship with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Viggo Mortensen). She accepts to travel with Olsen to his house close to the peaceful community of Elk Flats, Nevada, where they begin a life together following their meeting in San Francisco. Olsen's fatal choice to fight for the Union divides them when the civil war breaks out. Vivienne is left to fight for herself in a territory under the influence of dishonest business partner powerful rancher Alfred Jeffries (Garret Dillahunt) and corrupt Mayor Rudolph Schiller ( Danny Huston). Driven to reject his unwelcome approaches, Vivienne is pursued relentlessly by Alfred's violent, wayward son Weston (Solly McLeod). Olsen and Vivienne have to face and reconcile the person each has evolved with each other after he gets back from the war. The Dead Don't Hurt is a portrait of a passionate lady resolved to stand up for herself in an unforgiving society governed by unscrupulous men, both a sad love story and a subtle depiction of the tension between revenge and forgiveness.
The new movie has turned out to be a really riveting and forceful viewing. Audience members have commended the film's great performances and potent message, therefore reflecting a generally good reaction to it. All things considered, the movie adds nicely to Mortensen's already outstanding resume.
