Movies like Training Day come around and shake things up. We love it for that and the incredible Denzel Washington who starred as Alonzo Harris! But you want more?
Training Day’s Legacy:
For all those fans that couldn't get enough "Training Day," a story set in Los Angeles where the line between good and bad is really a tough one. One thing that didn't really come out was a sequel. In fact, it was an amazing movie and everyone gave Washington high praise! And it received an Oscar.
While David Ayer, who wrote the movie, had such an awesome role in making "Training Day" a classic! The story of this director didn't end there. His next movie, Street Kings, had some pretty compelling elements to the story and also came together because of this well-loved, talented group!
Street Kings: An Underappreciated Classic:
It turns out that Street Kings was one of Ayer's many movie ventures after "Training Day!" The star power was strong as Keanu Reeves joined Chris Evans to help "Street Kings" become one of those amazing movie experiences! The action was intense, but a lot was also about crime! You see, the plot really shows the struggles of the law and the dirty cops! "Street Kings" also focuses on the way corrupted cops can change when it's too late to take a different course in their lives! That was a big reason why it felt like the perfect movie to watch, even if it didn't have that same title.
The heart of this amazing Crime Drama follows "Detective Tom Ludlow" (played by Keanu Reeves) as he takes this journey to try and do right after the tragic loss of his wife, but the only way he seems to be able to work is with this crazy, darker energy! There's so much going on that he doesn't only do what is right but does the best he can in a messed-up world where even the good cops try to play by their rules, but are met with a really cruel world of corruption!
It turns out that Chris Evans played the part of Detective Diskant who joined this story in 2008 with this memorable scene and character.
David Ayer's Next Movies:
David Ayer kept going from one movie project to the next! What he loved was crafting this type of Crime Thriller with powerful moments!
- One of his first films was called "Harsh Times." (Also a movie with the same style as "Training Day.") What he wanted to do is not only show how the series was amazing and had a lot of clout, but also made sure "Harsh Times" was a movie audiences needed to see! The big issue was that it only got mixed reviews.
- The director went on to bring his own unique vision to a film called "End of Watch," which is another super impressive story about the LAPD. However, it has nothing to do with "Training Day" or "Street Kings." The major thing to consider about the movie is that it received huge praise as critics thought the way it was filmed made it stand out! You could even say Ayer really was starting to get noticed in Hollywood!
All of Ayer's Movies are truly exceptional, and as you know there are so many to see! Some of those titles include:
- "The Tax Collector."
- "Suicide Squad."
However, one of the big highlights from this prolific director was when he directed "Street Kings"!
It’s an incredible story where we get to dive deep into that corruption!
Comparing Street Kings with Training Day:
The way this movie unfolded gives us some remarkable elements that really made it worth the watch, but at times these two Crime Thrillers really seemed to connect!
- "Training Day" was one of the most intense movies ever made about how those in the world of law enforcement can lose themselves.
- And that's where "Street Kings" goes down as a story that looks to continue the journey of those police who don't do right! "Training Day" is one of the best of the best, as far as its crime thrillers are concerned and when you compare these two it looks like Ayer really kept it a running theme to give fans a look into what happens when power, greed, and chaos collide.!
If you look at both "Street Kings" and "Training Day,", these films highlight a deep examination of those police officers who are able to survive this intense and complex world! The movie even makes the viewers question whether things are truly as simple as we perceive them to be and it makes these heroes take those journeys. They face tough times to find their own purpose! However, the one major difference between these movies was the action! "Street Kings" took it up a notch with more high stakes!
Reeves's character "Tom Ludlow," took it one step further with an unforgettable end. It is something that anyone would want in a crime thriller! It offers this optimistic sense! He wanted to turn things around.
So to find more of these "Training Day" style stories, fans really have a movie that seems like it was made for those who want to experience a similar type of crime story!
