Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a massive hit with Star Wars fans, but some of its changes may have been missed by most!
A Subtle Mistake:
A 2016 movie, that brought back so many great parts of Star Wars into live-action using state-of-the-art CGI, ended up creating a new X-wing design.
What's so unique about it, this wasn't necessarily something intended, but an oversight!
The X-Wing Design
Before Rogue One, the classic X-wing design was always known for its unique look with some asymmetry!
The wings had parts that clasped together, so that the overall look was a lot more interesting when they unfolded! The thing is, it was quite difficult for people to create a model of this part! However, when the newer design was built, the X-wing models started looking identical on each wing. RgroseA posted this detail online. An incredible Star Wars fan! A post that showed the reality of this error and showed how a big mistake continued into Star Wars for years. It wasn't initially realized when it was first introduced that the design may be problematic. The interesting thing was that physical versions for this model of X-wing for Rogue One had never shown the issues!
The Error And The Legacy
Many might think that it should have been corrected but Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) loved these updated models that could be used multiple times!
This meant ILM used these assets! These very cool and expensive models created by ILM continue to make their way to new shows! What made it so interesting is ILM reuse! That's shown off in newer series.
- The Rise of Skywalker
- Andor
Many might think this shouldn't be overlooked as this creates an inconsistency. And you would be right! That does leave things uneven, for those fans that try to pinpoint those unique elements of this legendary vehicle.
This slight alteration will almost be missed, as only Star Wars super fans really catch this.
Why is it like that?
- Reusing those highly intricate X-wing models is simpler.
- The amount saved, because of this process has really given ILM some extra money that helped other parts of the Star Wars projects.
- This reminds many fans of how Star Wars did things. Some creative decisions help them to save money and the reuse helps to bring an extra layer to all the viewers.
Looking Back at Rogue One:
A film released many years ago Rogue One continues to attract fans with not only how ILM handled all of the work of production design but because it brings everything together in a beautiful fashion!
What's particularly interesting? This prequel helped make Star Wars history, with lots of great special moments but was it all positive?
Even with its imperfections it remains a top-tier installment, as its impact has created such big waves in Star Wars.
While Rogue One helped to launch and shape the original trilogy’s history there’s always this new and wonderful feeling you have when a classic franchise evolves!
The X-wing issues may have brought a surprise but Star Wars has managed to use this legacy that it has had as the newer version has become pretty cool! Fans love seeing all those beautiful ships and these X-wings look super stunning. Whether these changes to this legendary starship end up having more adjustments or whether this model becomes standard, it is apparent that fans always want to have an unforgettable Star Wars cinematic experience. And what better place to start than from the history? This one, Rogue One.
