Oasis Cancels 50,000 Tickets! HUGE Crackdown on Resale Tickets – Will YOU Be Affected?

Oasis reunion tour: The Great Ticket Takedown!

Oasis Reunion: The Fight Against Ticket Scalpers

The Oasis reunion tour is causing a massive headache (not for the band, thankfully!), and that problem is ticket scalpers! This problem affects ticket buyers and is seriously impacting the concert experience. When tickets went on sale in August, 1.4 million tickets were up for grabs, with 10 million fans from 158 countries trying to snag them. This created an incredibly volatile atmosphere which those professionals involved immediately leveraged!

The promoters (Live Nation and SJM) cleverly fought back: They made purchases ONLY via Ticketmaster or its resale partner Twickets; to avoid scalping. Tickets were only bought at face value; preventing outrageous price increases!   It worked. But even that failed to completely stem the tide!

The Scalper Crackdown: Tens of Thousands of Tickets Cancelled!

Live Nation and SJM aren’t kidding around, folks! They plan to cancel over 50,000 tickets bought from resale sites like Viagogo and StubHub. This isn’t a small number!  They found that four percent of tickets appeared on these platforms (far lower than the 20 percent usually seen!). Those canceled tickets are going back on sale at face value through Ticketmaster soon! (And if you believe yours was wrongly cancelled, speak to your agent immediately!).   This bold approach emphasizes the efforts made to protect those eager buyers.

Live Nation spokesperson said: “These terms and conditions were successfully put in place to take action against secondary ticketing companies reselling tickets for huge profit.”  They stressed buying tickets ONLY through official sources– otherwise they risk getting ripped off and potential cancellations!

Viagogo's Defiance: The Ongoing Battle for Ticket Sales

Despite those warnings, Viagogo isn't giving up! A spokesperson said they’ll “continue to sell [Oasis tickets] in the way the regulator says we can,” suggesting a direct challenge toward all those policies put into effect earlier.

The crazy thing? Ticket reselling is legal in the UK, even with these inflated prices. Some tickets are absolutely insane. There's one on Viagogo for £11,000! Another on StubHub at £119,000! This completely highlights the lengths to which this industry operates; showcasing these absurd, outlandish examples of overpricing to illustrate this situation.

Ticketmaster's Defense: Stopping Suspicious Activity

Ticketmaster is doing their part! During the sale, it blocked 250 million suspicious attempts, which means attempts far exceeding this already impressive number were not tracked! It’s just insane; showcasing those significant numbers attempting to use illegal bot purchases. It is further strengthened when adding the 4 ticket household per purchase limit. It’s not perfect, especially as other solutions attempt to undermine this, and this creates difficulties preventing sales, given those millions of purchases; they use various methods of preventing detection, but despite its inherent challenges, this continues to prove an effective and necessary tool!

Dynamic Pricing Backlash and the US Tour's Different Approach

Oasis' initial UK ticket sales also used dynamic pricing, raising costs during high demand, causing chaos! This led to those prices of £350 which became a focal point around some initial discussions.  The immense backlash made Oasis ditch dynamic pricing for their US dates, promising that fans would not endure the same treatment once again.  The UK's competition regulator is investigating if Ticketmaster broke the rules – illustrating the sheer level of controversy surrounding those high-priced ticket events.

Conclusion: The Fight Against Ticket Scalping is Far From Over

The Oasis reunion is huge and so are the problems that scalpers cause. Live Nation, SJM and Ticketmaster’s actions demonstrate the massive challenges around fighting those unethical resellers. Yet they really do seem to demonstrate an extremely promising initiative towards ticket buyers, preventing those exploitative and excessive price increases, preventing those extremely high and unreasonable costs of purchasing.

The canceled ticket efforts showcase a commitment towards a fairer system and that attempt deserves serious praise. However, it does also highlight just how deeply pervasive the scalping problem still continues to remain even with the creative use of existing infrastructure!
