NCIS Rewatch Podcast Emphasizes Kate & Ziva's Team-Up's Potential
Nearly twenty years later, though, a fresh project highlights a lost chance when the character was killed off. Alexander joins host Weatherly and Cote de Pablo in the first Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch podcast episode to discuss her time on the CBS series. It serves as a reminder of the possibilities of a Kate and Ziva David team-up in NCIS that the show was never able to exploit along the road.
Although the two never shared a screen as Kate and Ziva, the revisit podcast highlighted their chemistry. Alexander gave de Pablo, who was rather young when she joined NCIS, support and guidance, so there was actually some kind of passing the torch behind the scenes between them. Though much has been said about the friendship in the police procedural, one area it hasn't really properly addressed is female connections; it would have be fantastic to see Kate and Ziva working together, even for a little duration.
NCIS's Changes Should Kate Not Have Died
If Kate survived, it's hard to know what NCIS would look like. For background, Alexander decided to quit the show because of the demanding filming hours it required. Her leaving generated no drama whatsoever. Based just on the largest shift Kate's death brought about, de Pablo wouldn't have been hired as Ziva. There wouldn't be an empty slot, hence even if she was hired as part of the squad to take down Ari, it was unlikely she would have been a series regular.
Maybe the police procedural would have sought to create a romance between Kate and DiNozzo, but something about that off-putting considering all that has happened on the program. Although it's impossible to say if Kate stayed would NCIS be better, it's surely going to be quite different.
19 Years After Losing Kate Todd, a New NCIS Project Highlights the Most Missed Opportunity for Sasha Alexander's Character in the Series.
Although JAG's success helped to shape NCIS, its events didn't really begin until Mark Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his team came upon Kate. She was still employed with the Secret Service by then, but a foiled attempt at the president resulted in her losing her employment; this situation was repeated in NCIS' 1000th episode. Kate grew close to Gibbs, joined the Major Case Response Team (MCRT), and soon she was settled in.
Though he didn't show up during the JAG backdoor pilot of the police procedural unlike the rest of the NCIS original ensemble, Alexander turned out to be the perfect actor for Kate. She had a special chemistry with every MCRT member, but her banter with Anthony DiNozzo Jr. was quite entertaining to see. Although they were flirty sometimes, their relationship resembled those of siblings more. So it was both shocking and sad when Kate was suddenly killed in the NCIS season 2 finale by Ari Haswari.
NCIS: A Review of the Legacy of the Show
Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or NCIS, emphasizes the sometimes complicated and always entertaining dynamics of a team compelled to cooperate under great pressure. The NCIS team consists of NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee, an MIT graduate with a knack for computers who has lately graduated to senior field agent; the charismatic, unpredictable and resilient NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres, who has spent most of his career on solo undercover assignments; and sharp, athletic and tough NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight, a formidable REACT agent specialized in hostage negotiations and high-risk operations. Running the morgue and having progressed from assistant to fully licensed medical examiner, the naive Jimmy Palmer is helping the team; and forensic scientist Kasie Hines, Ducky's former graduate assistant. NCIS Director Leon Vance, a brilliant, highly skilled agent constantly dependable to upend the established quo, is in charge of supervising activities. From murder and espionage to terrorism and pilfered submarines, these elite agents probe any offenses involving Navy or Marine Corps affiliation.
NCIS's amazing TV run comes to an end five years later with the advent of CBS's newest blockbuster show shattering all kinds of records.
