Though Morgan Freeman only appears in a few episodes of Lioness, it's still amazing that the show produced two Oscar winners and movie icons like Freeman and Kidman in the same first season of a new series. This most obviously has to do with Sheridan's fame and amazing record of original streaming material as well as his superb work in movies on films as Hell of High Water (2016), Sicario (2015), and Wind River (2017).
Though its audience score is substantially higher at 80%, critics have given Lioness mixed reviews despite the praise of Sheridan's past works; Rotten Tomatoes score of merely 56% Lioness's critical reception is similar to that of Mayor of Kingstown, which boasts an audience score of 89% combined with a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of just 50%. Still, Lioness will come back with a second season perhaps not too far off, which could set the standard for the show altogether.
