Tulsa King season 2 is adding Neal Mcdonough as a villain, a move that seems to come straight from the Yellowstone playbook. McDonough played Malcolm Beck, the antagonistic head of the Montana Liquor Board in Yellowstone season 2.
McDonough is fantastic as a villain, and he should be able to bring his talent of portraying evil, unlikable characters to Tulsa King. The similarities run even deeper, too, as McDonough will be joining Tulsa King in its sophomore season, and he'll likely significantly raise the show's stakes, just as he did with Yellowstone.
With Tulsa King Season 2 still a few months away, not much is known about McDonough's character in the show. It has been confirmed that he'll be playing a character named Cal Thresher, who was described as "a powerful and extremely territorial businessman in Tulsa." Based on that description, it seems clear that Cal will be on a collision course with Dwight and his criminal empire. As Dwight's gang continues to expand, Cal will likely try to stop anyone from cutting into his profit margins.
Cal's status as a businessperson also, interestingly, makes McDonough's characters in Tulsa King and Yellowstone even more connected. In Yellowstone, McDonough also played a ruthless businessperson in the form of Malcolm Beck, with an emphasis on ruthless. Beck, along with his brother, was absolutely diabolical in Yellowstone: he used a militia group to openly attack both the Duttons' and Dan Jenkins, he had Tate kidnapped by white nationalists that permanently scarred him emotionally, and he had two of his men attempt to sexually assault Beth, among many other crimes. The Beck brothers were awful people, and if McDonough can play such an easy-to-hate villain again, Tulsa King Season 2 could be very interesting indeed.
Tulsa King is a Paramount+ original TV series starring Sylvester Stallone as Dwight "The General" Manfredi. After being released from prison for murder, The General is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he quickly sets up a new criminal empire. Tulsa King marks Stallone's first leading role in a TV show.
Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner and centers on his character John Dutton. Dutton and his family live on a cattle ranch just a few hours away from Yellowstone National Park. The series chronicles the family’s struggle to defend their home from an Indian reservation and land developers. As if their life wasn’t complicated enough, the Duttons also have medical issues, political aspirations, and family secrets stacked against them.
