The Rotten Tomatoes for Ishana Night Shyamalan's Directorial Debut show a mixed start.

Ishana Night Shyamalan's Directorial Bust Rotten Tomatoes Score Debuts as Directorial Bust

Ishana Night Shyamalan's directing flop starts with the Rotten Tomatoes score of The Watchers. Written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, the daughter of M. Night Shyamalan, the new horror film follows a young artist caught in the vast immaculate woodlands of western Ireland where, following shelter, she gets imprisoned alongside three strangers and stalked by enigmatic monsters every night. Along with Barbarian's Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, Olwen Fouéré, Alistair Brammer, and John Lynch Dakota Fanning leads The Watchers cast.

Now that its June 7 release date has arrived and over 70 reviews have been released, The Watchers has opened to a dismal 31% on Rotten Tomatoes. As more evaluations come out, the score should vary somewhat, but it is most likely to stay Rotten permanently—below 60%. Although Ishana Night Shyamalan's directing debut was much awaited, this poor Rotten Tomatoes rating will surely saver some of the buzz.

With his daughter Ishana making her directorial picture debut, M. Night Shyamalan will have to deal with an interesting rival at the summer 2024 box office.

Trap, a twisting thriller written by M. Night Shyamalan, will premiere this summer. Although Warner Bros. owns both Movies, the studio first planned not to release them the same summer. It just happened naturally. Of course, this resulted in the phrase "Summer of Shyamalan" being used to characterize the cinematic event. First released by the Watchers, Trap will have an August 9 debut following a serial murderer who brings his daughter to a concert for pop sensation Lady Raven and discovers it is a police trap meant to catch him.

Lady Raven is Saleka Shyamalan, the other daughter of Trap stars Josh Hartnett and M. Night Shyamalan. First and obviously, Ishana Night Shyamalan's directing debut sets expectations for the Summer of Shyamalan. The Watchers' reviews highlight the terrible atmosphere of the Horror Movie, but they also attack Shyamalan's opaque screenplay, which finally compromises its attractiveness and offers just fleeting interest before boredom takes over. Negative critical response usually doesn't stop viewers from viewing a movie in cinemas, hence The Watchers' Rotten Tomatoes score shouldn't stop Ishana Night Shyamalan's directing debut—and finally, the Summer of Shyamalan.

Examining The Watchers More Closely

Inspired by A.M. Shine's book, The Watchers centers on Mina (Dakota Fanning), a twenty-eight-year-old artist left in the middle of an Irish forest. Her little solace at finding cover is dashed when she comes upon other people in the same situation—but they are hunted every night by invisible animals.
