Reese Witherspoon, best known for her role as Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde series, almost played another memorable role six years earlier in Clueless, a 1995 movie.
With Reese Witherspoon movies being loved by audiences for many years, and with Reese Witherspoon roles consistently topping charts for popularity, it makes perfect sense why the role of Cher would have been so coveted. She nearly got to play Cher Horowitz, a role which ultimately became a career-starter for Alicia Silverstone. The producers of the movie at Fox decided on Silverstone for the part!
Even though some fans may believe it, Reese Witherspoon was not part of the Clueless cast. Studio executives liked Reese, especially as her Reese Witherspoon Teen Comedy role was showing a great sense of talent, but Amy Heckerling, who directed Clueless, stayed with Silverstone, who was already a popular figure because of a role she had in some popular music videos at the time.
Studio executives suggested other names to Amy Heckerling, including names like Tiffany Thiessen, Keri Russell and Angelina Jolie! While they would have certainly created a very different and amazing film, they weren't right for the role according to the director!
