The sequel to the Academy Award-winning movie Joker, called Joker: Folie à Deux came out in October 2024. It divided audiences but it's no surprise! There were several scenes that were left out of the final cut. Let's explore those moments!
Scenes Cut From the Movie
The hype for Joker: Folie à Deux was through the roof and lots of fans were anticipating this sequel. The trailers gave people so many questions and expectations of what might occur!
But there were a number of things cut that are worth highlighting! Fans may wonder about why they were left out!
Harley Quinn's Independent Journey
One of the first sneak peeks was released at CinemaCon 2024. What did it reveal? The amazing Lady Gaga, as Lee (Harley Quinn). The teaser shows Lee walking up the famous "Joker Stairs." This was a spot highlighted in the 2019 Joker film!
It may seem like just a cool moment! It also hints at some story details, even suggesting Lee grew up in Arthur Fleck's neighborhood. This was important, especially given Lee's special fondness for the stairs as a recurring motif!
Fleck's View of Arkham
The trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux showed Arthur Fleck peering through Arkham Asylum's fence! This was never featured. This is also really interesting considering Fleck's big storyline in Arkham Asylum!
The scene of Fleck at the fence might have set up his desire to escape from Arkham, making the ultimate outcome feel even more dramatic and meaningful!
Harley's Pregnancy
Another fascinating plot point that never fully made the cut! A very shocking revelation made by Lee to Fleck after their encounter. Lee reveals she's pregnant!
The trailers did confirm the big secret, showcasing moments between Joker and Harley. The pregnancy would never be confirmed, especially after Lee abandons Fleck!
Harley's Transformation
Fans got to see Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn but that didn't fully happen until way into the movie! The Harley Quinn makeover was gradual and amazing! However, that wasn't fully expressed. Trailers highlight even more!
We see Lee in an elevator scene within Arthur Fleck's old apartment building. This would add even more significance!
Harley's Musical Goodbye
A very strange omission in this adaptation. There were shots revealed outside of what came to be the final cut. They showcased a moment on the stairs outside the Courthouse!
There's some singing, dancing that was missing, which might have set the stage for the finale to be very musical as well! The absence might have changed things too much as the ending felt different, which wasn't a pleasant experience for a lot of viewers who anticipated a great finish for these two iconic characters.
Harley's Kiss
A surprising cut made it to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview! The deleted moment. The director Todd Phillips explained why it happened!
Lady Gaga improvised a kiss "Lee gave a woman and was supposed to show this.
What might have changed things is this choice removed a possible glimpse into Harley Quinn's character!
The Final Dance
This scene was perhaps the most anticipated moment that never made it to the theatrical cut of the film.
Joker and Harley dance on the steps, showing their relationship that could be seen by audiences as the couple that makes an escape and have their happy ending. What might stand out the most about this moment, it seems to have also had an alternate version where the movie ended.
Instead, in a heartbreaking finale, the character, Fleck was taken down by other inmates who showed off some extremely brutal violence! This makes this omission of Joker and Harley dancing one of the most unfortunate.
Fans wanted more answers, a real payoff from seeing these famous DC Comics figures and were looking for a compelling finish! Even so much drama between them.
The cut scenes and the decision to change this final release show what might have happened in the story arc which creates some interest among the movie audience. While the fans still wonder if these might surface and this specific duo might continue, only time will tell. Joker: Folie à Deux might have left fans with so many unanswered questions. The new adaptation, made such an impact. That fans continue to debate this decision for Warner Brothers and this latest sequel.
