Ian McKellen is ready to return as Gandalf, should necessary.
Ian McKellen asked whether he will come back as Gandalf in The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a just announced movie set for 2026. Originally cast member Andy Serkis will oversee the movie, which Peter Jackson will produce. The narrative will show Gollum under hunt prior to the events of The Fellowship of the Ring.
The Times asked McKellen whether he might play Gandalf in The Hunt for Gollum. He admits that, given his long white hair, which he has been cultivating for the stage performance Falstaff, he currently fits the character. "I have not shaved in months," he says. "There is no plan, no script, and no offer, yet." When asked whether he would be eager to play the part once more, McKellen laughed, "If I'm alive."
