Friday 2: Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis's Return
Freaky Friday 2 is preparing with its first new cast member. After the 1976 original starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris and a 1995 TV movie starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann, the much awaited sequel to the 2003 Mark Waters comedy Freaky Friday—the third adaptation of the 1972 Mary Rodgers novel of the same name about a mother and daughter switching bodies—is here. With Nisha Ganatra taking over as director, the forthcoming Freaky Friday 2 is scheduled to feature the comeback of Waters version stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first fresh cast member will be joining the Freaky Friday 2 returning stars. Though the part she would be playing has not yet been revealed, the 15-year-old actress Julia Butters is apparently in negotiations to board the film. Based on reports of lead heroines Tess and Anna Coleman swapping bodies in the upcoming film— Anna's daughter and future stepdaughter—Butters most likely will be portraying one of two adolescent females.
Everywhere you have seen Julia Butters before Freaky Friday 2
Should the hinted-at Freaky Friday 2 narrative involving a four-person exchange prove to be accurate, then Butters's performance will be absolutely crucial to the upcoming film. It makes logical that the people working on the movie would be contacting young actors with a lot of experience to appropriately counter seasoned returning players. Butters is a great fit for the part since her resume shows her rather capable of holding her own against big stars.
Perhaps most famously, the young star portrayed child performer Trudi Frazer in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood, a character with a significant one-on-one encounter with Leonardo DiCaprio's Rick Dalton. She wouldn't show in another film for three years, but she followed up with a double whammy in 2022 playing opposite Ryan Gosling in the Russo Brothers' The Gray Man and with Michelle Williams and Paul Dano in Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans. The Butters' other most notable roles thus far are broken out below:
Examining the Original Freaky Friday Backstage
The 2003 Disney movie Freaky Friday 2, which stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as a mother and daughter who unintentionally changed bodies, follows Apart from Curtis and Lohan's wish to reunite, there are no specific specifics on the movie; Elyse Hollander is writing the script.
Originally, the film was quite popular for Disney and grew to be a classic among younger viewers. Since then, a sequel has been much sought for by supporters. Butters' casting reveals that the filmmakers are committed to produce a narrative appealing to both old and new viewers.
The Evolution of Freaky Friday
The Freaky Friday brand has a fascinating and long history. Comprising Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, the first movie came out in 1976. It was quite popular and inspired a 1995 TV film with Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann.
Most people agree that the 2003 Freaky Friday starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis is the most successful adaptation of the tale. It was a big box office success and inspired a lot of popular culture events including the band Simple Plan's legendary song "Freaky Friday".
The Gift of Julia Butters
Butters already has ten years of on- camera acting expertise at the time of writing. One of Lohan's first on-screen roles was an uncredited trick or treater on a 1992 Late Night with David Letterman episode, hence this almost exactly reflects her own degree of experience at the time she shot the original 2003 film. Whether Butters formally boards Freaky Friday 2 or not, it will be interesting to see if she can locate another adolescent co-star with the same degree of expertise.
Butters is a Hollywood rising star, though. Her remarkable acting range and capacity to collaborate with well-known stars already define her. Her skill and background make her a great addition to Freaky Friday 2's cast.
A Novel Approach to the Body-Swap Trope
Though a 2023 film has tried this and came out "Rotten," Freaky Friday 2's proposed plot would tweak accepted body-swap clichés.
Butters' possible inclusion into the Freaky Friday 2 ensemble could indicate the start of a fresh chapter for the franchise. Though it's still to be seen if Butters will formally be on the cast, should she do so, it will be fascinating to watch how she enhances the dynamic of the film.
