Elijah Wood has been candid about returning as Frodo Baggins in Andy Serkis' forthcoming film, "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." The actor expressed his excitement about maybe going back into Middle-earth, saying it would be "incredible" to revisit the cherished environment.
Wood discussed the prospect of going back to the franchise in a recent JoBlo interview, remarking, "It would be pretty incredible. Any return to New Zealand to work with those people within the framework of that environment would be...jumping back into a world that's so beloved and means so much to me. So indeed, it would be fantastic." Although at this early level of production nothing is official, Wood's comment shows his enthusiasm for participation.
Set inside the events of "The Fellowship of the Ring," The Hunt For Gollum explores the time following Frodo's acquisition of the One Ring but before he encounters Aragorn. According to Tolkien's book, Aragorn and Gandalf hunted Gollum extensively in this period in order to stop news of their intention from getting to Sauron.
The plot of the movie might cause some well-known characters—Aragorn, Gandalf, even other Fellowship members—to resurface. Although there have not been any official announcements, fans would be much delighted if original cast members returned.
Although the idea of seeing the original performers come back is appealing, it also brings possible difficulties. Time has greatly aged the actors, thus their appearances might differ greatly from their original trilogy depictions. For instance, whereas Ian McKellen, the actor portraying Gandalf, is 85, Viggo Mortensen, who portrayed Aragorn, is now 65 years old.
If the narrative suits Aragorn's present age, Mortensen has said he would be ready to come back. De-aging technology could enable the actors to seem more like their younger selves, but it can also be costly and not always yields desired effects.
Future fantasy adventure movie The Hunt for Gollum explores the narrative of Gollum's obsession with the One Ring. Comprising events of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, the movie will examine the turbulent past of the character and his unrelenting search of the Ring. Filmed in Middle-earth, it will negotiate difficult terrain and come across the sinister powers endangering the fate of the Ring.
Set to direct the movie is Andy Serkis, who famously portrayed Gollum in the first Lord of the Rings trilogy. Examining the character of Gollum in more depth and exposing fresh insights into his motivations and activities, the movie promises to present a different viewpoint on the familiar Middle-earth.
