Blumhouse's 12 Upcoming Horror Movies: A Deep Dive
12. Wolf Man (January 17, 2025): A Classic Werewolf Remake
Blumhouse takes on this 1941 classic, starring Lon Chaney Jr. This remake follows a man and his family. After that mysterious injury; the family realizes their lives will change when that wound becomes far, far more sinister than they'd ever expect. Starring Christopher Abbott (from It Comes at Night) and Julia Garner (from Ozark) and directed by Leigh Whannell (who wrote and was involved in the 2004 Saw). Remakes are massive. Will this one work?
11. The Woman in the Yard (March 28, 2025): A Mysterious Thriller
This 2025 Blumhouse release is shrouded in mystery! It's being directed by Jaume Collet-Sera (Black Adam, Jungle Cruise, Orphan) and stars Danielle Deadwyler, Okqui Okpokwasii, and Russell Hornsby. With a somewhat vague description and some key players (like those in Carry On) the main plot remains unconfirmed. This plot focuses around possible surveillance; either being watched or watching someone – but that same someone may not necessarily be human!
10. Drop (April 11, 2025): A Widowed Mother's Race Against Time
This one blends horror and thriller! Meghann Fahy (who really took off in The White Lotus season 2) plays a widowed mother whose first date takes an utterly terrifying turn; after receiving messages to fulfill or she might lose her family, creating an intense storyline which is a perfect way to launch this movie. This storyline presents incredible tension. From that very premise, expect tension.
9. M3GAN 2.0 (June 27, 2025): The Killer Doll Returns!
2022's M3GAN was ridiculously successful – so, of course, there is a sequel! Expect the return of Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Jenna Davis – this sounds utterly perfect, and they likely capitalize on the original’s amazing success; that initial run showed some massive promise and delivered on that potential.
8. Untitled Insidious Film (August 29, 2025): A Journey Back to the Further
Insidious 6 – not much has been revealed; not many of those big players. It is unlikely for any of that earlier main cast, like Patrick Wilson or Ty Simpkins, to appear but this could actually work! Exploring The Further again with a whole new story; an entirely new storyline could revive a series' old appeal; that old franchise with all its intense fans; but it would need a good plot!
7. The Black Phone 2 (TBD): The Killer Could Return...
The terrifying The Black Phone (2021) will get a sequel. No clear idea what’s happening but we could get the return of Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, and Madeleine McGraw – this would generate lots of audience excitement given its popularity!
6. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (December 5, 2025): The Sequel to a Record-Breaking Hit!
2023's Five Nights at Freddy's was a box office sensation; making a massive and totally unexpected jump in popularity after those original gaming experiences. This means a sequel and using a few main players is totally on the cards: Josh Hutcherson and Elizabeth Lail might show up (Lail was in a coma before that ending – a fun opportunity to start something again!) – making an insane level of fan anticipation building. We'll dive back into that weird world, likely with some elements from the video game's sequel. The possibilities here are completely exciting and fans expect great things from this sequel after such a great original that exceeded expectations in amazing ways.
5. SOULM8TE (TBD): M3GAN's Erotic Thriller Spinoff
Get this! There’s an M3GAN spin-off, SOULM8TE! An erotic thriller about an AI companion made real, this explores loneliness, creating dangerous realities! Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) is directing; expect a fascinating look at human relationships—this might remind people of films like Her and Ex Machina!
4. Untitled Exorcist Reboot (March 13, 2026): Mike Flanagan's Exorcism
Mike Flanagan is remaking The Exorcist. A truly iconic horror franchise that includes The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, and even Doctor Sleep – this totally should've earned amazing popularity considering that it boasts a legend in that production team, a name that practically makes people buy tickets instantly, it also makes use of an iconic piece from cinematic horror – but the storyline’s main challenge lies in the massive history which this specific director already has. Expect something huge.
3. Untitled Lee Cronin Film (2026): Horror Master Lee Cronin’s Latest
Irish director Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground, Evil Dead Rise) is making a new horror film. That’s huge and his deal with Blumhouse is equally amazing! And details? That’s almost non-existent.
2. Thread: An Insidious Tale (TBD): New Faces in the Further
An Insidious spin-off! Starring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani, expect new characters exploring The Further! A continuation and exploration on well-known lore using new approaches and adding fresh creative flair to a beloved existing title should do really well! This project should add unique experiences to this now mature franchise, and the very inclusion of these particular individuals could mean a huge jump in potential viewers who would normally not consider watching a classic horror film, using actors of higher quality; adding unique production and post-production quality would certainly help establish a truly great sequel which could very well become a high-quality horror for a whole new generation.
1. Untitled Blair Witch Film (TBD): The Found Footage King Returns
A Blair Witch Project reboot. It is another massively successful title, getting another round after Blumhouse teams up with Lionsgate. That first 1999 release helped to change horror movies. Will a reimagining with modern scares do well? This certainly requires new innovation. A return to old techniques might not entirely be well received considering how much the visual aesthetics for this kind of scary experience already exists! These must be created using entirely new tools; yet maintain the overall spirit. Yet it must totally add creative approaches to maintain viewer excitement for those many years later, demonstrating an innovative yet slightly nostalgic style. These are massive demands for such an older, cult classic.
Conclusion: Blumhouse Promises a Year of Non-Stop Screams!
Blumhouse’s plans involve remakes, sequels, and innovative original concepts, presenting some high expectations – it’s creating multiple avenues, focusing on high-profile projects, but more critically, creating smart partnerships with experienced actors, directors and production teams that could bring about a new renaissance and make for anotHer really big hit! The combined expertise from existing titles alone provides ample assurances that another great run and successful string of hits should be guaranteed.
