Recently, David Howard Thornton, the star of the terrifying Terrifier movies, expressed his interest in playing DC's Joker. This came after Joker: Folie a Deux didn't do so well at the box office. Thornton is known for his amazing performance as Art the Clown, and for bringing this extremely gruesome horror movie to a whole new level of scares. He really impressed fans, as the Terrifier franchise keeps growing and improving, getting higher scores on Rotten Tomatoes with each release: Terrifier (58%), Terrifier 2 (86%), and Terrifier 3 (87%).
Thornton's Joker Vision
Thornton loves DC Comics and the Joker. In a chat with Total Film, he revealed that the Joker is his favorite villain. And it would be a dream to play him in a future DC movie or series.

- He is so passionate that he actually used to bring a Joker action figure around when he was a kid!
In fact, it looks like his love for the Joker inspired his Art the Clown character, mentioning how he took different elements from other iconic horror villains such as Jason, Pinhead, Freddy, Chucky, and Jigsaw.

This would certainly be an interesting move for DC. Even with Joker: Folie a Deux's weak box office performance, the character's popularity continues. Having Thornton take on the role would bring some changes! His style and Terrifier character already show how good he is at bringing a violent character to life. His experience could also work for DC as it's a known fact that he has a deep knowledge about comics and the history that goes into making such memorable and iconic horror figures.
Thornton Vs. Other Jokers
It looks like Thornton has proven that he can handle playing some scary villains!
However, there could be concerns. His portrayal of Art the Clown may make fans think of Art the Clown, rather than the Joker. It’s a very unique problem. Even more so because there is so much attention from those who follow the genre.

There is something to look forward to. If Gunn and the DC team have some interesting ideas. This pairing would provide audiences with something unlike what has been on the screens for years. Thornton could bring the most scary Joker to life and that's a risk that DC could really take!
There's always the risk that audiences will get confused about Thornton's two different clown characters. However, it looks like his passion for this legendary character, makes him an interesting candidate and someone who fans are excited about!
