How Zenless Zone Zero Pity System Works
Zenless Zone Zero follows the gacha monetization model, so long-term players will want to understand the game's Pity System when pulling for characters or weapons. The pity system in Zenless Zone Zero is similar to the one in Honkai: Star Rail, which is based on the system in Genshin Impact.
Players are guaranteed an A-rank Agent (equivalent to 4-star units in Honkai: Star Rail or Genshin Impact) or W-Engine (weapons) at least once every 10 pulls. There is a standard 0.6% chance of pulling an S-rank (5-star) Agent or W-Engine. "Soft" pity begins around 75 pulls, where each subsequent pull increases the chance of pulling an S-rank. At 90 pulls (or 80 pulls for W-Engine banners), players hit "hard" pity, where they are guaranteed to pull an S-rank.
Zenless Zone Zero Pity System on Banners
On standard banners, pulling an S-rank just gives one of the standard offerings, and it doesn't affect the next S-rank pull. However, limited banners work differently. The first time a player pulls an S-rank on a limited banner, they have a set chance of getting the featured item. If they don't get the featured item and get a standard banner offering instead, their next S-rank draw on that banner is guaranteed to be the featured item.
So, in the case of a limited banner, there's a chance of getting the featured item on your first S-rank pull, but if you don't, your next S-rank pull is guaranteed to be the featured item. This is helpful for players who want to ensure they get the specific character or weapon they are aiming for.
Pity Carryover in Zenless Zone Zero
Pity "carries over" between limited banners of the same type. For example, if you pull 20 times on a limited character banner without getting an S-rank Agent, you will only need 70 more pulls on the next limited character banner to hit hard pity. However, this carryover does not work for different banner types, such as between an Agent banner and a W-Engine banner.
Knowing how pity carryover works can be helpful for players who are trying to get specific characters or weapons. By saving up your pulls and using them on banners of the same type, you can maximize your chances of getting what you want.
Maximum Pulls Required in Zenless Zone Zero
The maximum number of pulls required to guarantee a specific limited Agent or W-Engine is 180 and 160, respectively. This is because it takes two hard pity cycles (90 pulls each) to be absolutely guaranteed to get the featured item. However, most players will likely reach the desired character or weapon before hitting hard pity twice, as the soft Pity System increases the chances of getting an S-rank.
While the Gacha system can be a contentious monetization model, understanding Zenless Zone Zero's pity system can help players make informed decisions about how to spend their in-game currency and resources. Knowing how the pity system works can give players a better idea of their chances of getting the characters and weapons they want.
