Having gathered many fresh power sources in prior editions of our classic Star Wars series, Darth Vader has never been more potent than he was in the months before Return of the Jedi. Allied with the Schism Imperial which also seeks to see Palpatine removed from power, the Dark Lord also has an advanced Droid army at his back, a new energy source taken from the life of a drained planet, and now a devastating weapon Vader can wield in his hand that essentially operates like a tiny Death Star (far surpassing a normal lightsaber.)
As seen in this new issue, the broken and battered Sith Eternal summoned a herd of the deep space creatures known as Summa-verminowicz, gargantuan tentacled creatures who live in the nearby Red Honeycomb Zone, a web of hyperspace anomalies that act as a natural barrier having long concealed the Sith world of Exgol from the rest of the galaxy. But Vader rides atop his Imperial Shuttle before launching a devastating blast of crimson kyber energy at the assembled kaiju-like monsters, and the Summa-Verminoths and their deadly mental attacks proved to be no match for him.

Having acquired the tools to wield the power of a Death Star in his own hands, Darth Vader just discovered a significant fresh source of power on the Sith planet of Exegol. Having endeavored to assemble as much authority outside his master's control as feasible, the Dark Lord of the Sith has been somewhat busy between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in a try to permanently depose Palpatine once and for once. This now includes Vader obtaining a terrible new power derived from the same source that drove both of his master's battle stations.
As seen in the new and canonical Darth Vader #47 by Greg Pak and Raffaele Ienco, Vader breaks up the massive piece of corrupted red kyber Palpatine had long stored away on Exegol, the secret Sith throneworld located in the Unkown Regions and protected by a herd of massive psychic creatures known as Summa-Verminoths. Having had vanquished Palpatine's Sith Eternal with his own army, Vader made sure he was ready for the flood of Verminoths the Sith priests started calling out. Thus, Vader finds a quite damaging use for his just acquired kyber: Vader affixed huge shards of the red kyber to the shield and his staff, so channeling the crystal's terrible energies into an enormously devastating explosion, one not unlike those blasted from the Death Stars on-screen, using his kyberite shield acquired on Ringo Vinda to focus his strength.
Having felt the great display of power through the Force, seeing how Vader already used his Imperial allies and droid army to destroy the Sith Eternal cultists broke through and slain the herd of Summa-verminowicz was all the confirmation Palpatine needed that his apprentice's powers had evolved to rather significant levels. Fascinatingly enough, Vader's son Luke also experienced his father's strength, therefore inspiring him to separate himself from the Rebel Alliance should his father come hunting for him. This is something the end of this issue indeed teases.
One wonders therefore how Palpatine will respond when Vader focuses entirely on his master in next installments. Though ultimately bending the knee as shown in Return of the Jedi, it should be quite interesting to see how the Emperor treats his student with all of this amazing new power at his hands. Likewise, for the Star Wars canon, the possibility that Vader would also meet his son before Episode VI would naturally be quite significant.
A monument to his increasing might and ambition, Darth Vader's latest Weapon—a kyber-powered gadget that practically serves as a little Death Star—showcases Derived from the same source that drove the Emperor's Death Star, the weapon lets Vader unleash a great blast of energy capable of destroying whole planets. Representing Vader's rebellion and his will to escape Palpatine's rule, this potent new weapon is A significant turning point in the Darth Vader trilogy, the acquisition of this weapon promises to have broad effects on the galaxy.
One should also consider the future of the Star Wars universe given this potent new Weapon poses issues. Will Darth Vader oppose Palpatine with his new weapon, therefore asserting his own throne? Will he keep it handy to guard his son, Luke? Alternatively will he turn it toward his own self-serving needs? The next episodes of the Darth Vader series will surely probe these questions, and they give the Star Wars narrative fresh levels of mystery.
