Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn Final Boss & Ending Interpreted
Though its ending still begs many questions, Flintlock: The Siege Of Dawn presents a simpler narrative than most Soulslikes. Flintlock chronicles a hardened soldier named Nor in a post-apocalyptic world where the living dead and terrible gods are under siege. Nor is anyone else who styles themselves Sappers. Strong defenders of the remains of humanity, the Sappers keep precarious control over the safe city of Dawn.
Flintlock: Final Boss's Siege of Dawn
Eventually Nor and Enki find Uru and discover the portal he hides behind. Reminding them he is imprisoned in the Great Below and that killing Enki is his only way out, Uru momentarily begs them to free him. He promises to cause Enki continuous suffering and does that quite quickly. Thus starts the last struggle against Uru.
Flintlock: Uru's Siege of Dawn Boss Fight
Like Nor, Uru is a big, wing-bearing beast who battles with a mix of melee and ranged attacks. He will jump into the air and cut down the middle with a giant beam of light or send wisps of magic at Nor from across the arena. He will alternatively slam down on top of Nor, or just rear up on his hind legs and grab her with his claws. In the end, though, Uru's first phase is not very demanding of a boss. Players can apply the same tactics they have used throughout Flintlock: The Siege Of Dawn to rapidly defeat the first phase as long as they are sufficiently leveled up and have decent, upgraded gear.
Second Flintlock Phase: Final Boss for the Siege of Dawn
Uru will fall and Nor will question whether the fight is really over once his health bar runs empty. It's not; Uru rises once more right away, but Enki holds him at distance in a lightning web. To properly keep him under control, he tells Nor he will have to return down beneath Uru. He vanishes into The Great Below after thanks her for enabling him to face his anxieties and get this far. Nor follows Enki despite his objections, reminding him she regards him as a fellow Sapper.
Flintlock: Second Phase (Without Enki) Final Boss for The Siege of Dawn
Nor is immediately corned by Uru in the Below. Enki is "gone," he says, and Nor will have to fight the second half of the battle by herself. Uru is much tougher without Enki, and he has some new area of effect attacks to demonstrate for it. Apart from his regular motions, Uru will cover the battlefield with lightning and occasionally lay down rippling orbs of Nor-attracting gravity magic. Enki will reappearance halfway through the fight, although not in his usual form; he zaps Uru with his own lightning from time to time, so providing "a show of good faith." Enki deals the last blow personally, lightning-fast destruction of Uru's prison.
Flintlock: The Dawn Ending Siege
Enki reaches his full height, at least twice Nor's height, once Uru is defeated. Nor notes that she always knew he had another, truer form. Enki's development here marks his growing bravery: he has grown big enough, in strength and in spirit, to confront his former competitor. And he's vanquished him with Nor's aid.
Flintlock: Dawn Ending's Siege Expounded
Enki chastises Nor for following him, though, as the prison is destroyed. She is reminded that the two are caught in The Great Below since Uru sealed the portal in his last hours and there is no way out. Again, Nor reminds him that she wouldn't trust him to beat Uru alone and that she would never abandon a fellow Sapper behind.
Flintlock: The Teasers Comprising Dawn Ending's Siege
Enki says, "You gave up everything for me," and together they gaze far off. Allow me to make it up to you." Nor responds, "Lead the way," and the camera swipes out to show a blue-green crystal glittering far away. This implies that players haven't heard the last of Nor and Enki; perhaps a DLC or sequel to Flintlock will surface going forward. Though it's not exactly what they'll look like, it will seem that star the two as they travel across the Great Below, demolishing violent ancient gods as customary. Developer A44 has not spoken, of course, and it will likely take some time until she speaks. Still, there's obvious tease here for a second visit.
Flintlock: Dawn Ending's Siege: Inquiries
And that's a benefit since a few of the questions remain open for another response. Whether Nor ever makes it back from the Great Below, what happens to Dawn in the wake of Uru's defeat and what precisely that blue crystal is remain to be seen? Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn has plenty to explore even if the ending neatly finishes its main narrative.
