Why exists a complete school of magic in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree?
Based on the power of dragons, the school of magic known as the Dragon Communion has a somewhat fascinating past. Placidusax, a superstrong dragon also known as the Dragonlord, starts it all. He was not the biggest even though he was the strongest! Actually, the dragons Greyoll, Gransax, and the one at the foot of Jagged Peak were larger. Placidusax now had a main rival: Bayle The Dread, the Father of the Lesser Dragons (or drakes). Their large-scale fight resulted in a tie as both dragons suffered major injuries. Placidusax wanted to finish them; Bayle and some of his Drakes withdrew to the Land of Shadow.
Placidusax had his servants train people on hunting and killing Bayle and the Drakes. The people started grabbing the hearts of the dead Drakes in order to obtain extra energy; they were really decent at it. That's how the Dragon Communion Incantations developed and how the whole school of magic was started! Though now in ruins, they even constructed a Church and a Cathedral.
In what way does Bayle The Dread fit all this?
Among the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC bosses is Bayle. At the top of Jagged Peak, you come upon a massive, injured dragon. His connection to Placidusax is very amazing. Two dragon heads from Bayle's model are biting into him; those belong to Placidusax! They were battling, and Placidusax beat Bayle but both of them had really severe injuries. He was the one who contested Placidusax for the Dragonlord title, therefore he came to have a shattered wing and missing a limb.
Igon has what bearing on this?
In the DLC, Igon is a somewhat fascinating guy driven by obsession with killing Bayle. He belongs to the Dragon Communion and once he tried to fight Bayle, Bayle tore him apart! He wants retribution and is really irate. Driven to devour Bayle's heart, Igon drags his injured body throughout the Land of Shadow in search of this.
His search finishes with him called to battle Bayle, and he gives some quite legendary voice acting! He issues all these threats and yells at Bayle. Driven with vengeance, he is very like Captain Ahab from Moby Dick! Seeing him exact his retribution upon you after defeating Bayle is quite poignant. Actually, you achieve the Dragon Communion's objective by beating Bayle—that of killing him and his Drakes!
Besides what else does Bayle inform us about the lore?
Bayle's narrative gives the lore of the base game many more specifics. It clarifies the reasons the Drakes exist, why Placidusax is lacking a few heads, and where the Dragon Communion originated. It clarifies also what transpired with the dragons in the base game. People believed Placidusax might have been injured fighting with the Golden Order prior to the DLC. We now realize he was essentially only battling Bayle!
Why is Bayle a such a cool boss?
Among every FromSoftware game, Bayle is among the best dragon boss battles. He has a fantastic backstory, looks nice, and is rather tough! He's an optional boss, which is fantastic since it gives the narrative much more nuance. He's somewhat of like Darkeater Midir from Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City, another amazing dragon boss who enriches the narrative. FromSoftware is introducing some amazing dragon monsters to their games, and they're only getting better with every new game!
Why is this DLC such outstanding?
Elden Ring will benefit much from the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC since it offers fresh game elements and provides greater story depth. FromSoftware's inclusion of ideas from their past games is really fantastic, yet still maintain what distinguishes Elden Ring. The DLC also boasts an excellent narrative and several quite difficult new bosses that will keep gamers interested and entertained!
