Following the Jedi hunt down, what happened to Darth Vader's Inquisitors? The solution resides in a fresh Star Wars book and exposes a terrible destiny for these dark side Force users.
Originally debuted in the Star Wars canon via the animated series Star Wars Rebels, Darth Vader's Inquisitors were assigned to find any Jedi who had survived Order 66. Under the Grand Inquisitor, these dark side Force users were enforcers of Palpatine, committed to totally destroying the Jedi Order.
The real tragedy of these Inquinctors was that many were once Jedi themselves. Either they bought to be assassins for Darth Vader or were kidnapped and tormented until they yielded to the dark side. Their decline from glory made their hunt against their former colleagues even more tragic.
One could assume the Inquisitors would have finally vanished as the Jedi count fell. But based on Dr. Chris Kempshall's book, "Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire," Palpatine might have judged the Inquinctors outdated. Palpatine thought the Jedi threat had been neutralized, thus the Inquinctors had no use since no Jedi remained to hunt.
Dr. Kempshall hypothesizes that Palpatine might have given orders for Darth Vader to kill the Inquesters. Being apprentices to Darth Vader, they had no chance against him. After all, barely surviving encounters with Darth Vader were even strong Jedi like Kanan Jarrus and Ahsoka Tano.
Victims of the Jedi Purge, the inquisitors were transformed into the exact force meant to wipe their own species. From the beginning, they were destined for tragedy and caught in a violent cycle. Their story moves poignantly in a full circle when they die at the hands of the ultimate Jedi hunter, Darth Vader.
The narrative of the inquisitors reminds us strongly of the terrible results of Palpatine's rule and the sinister side of the Empire. Their terrible destiny emphasizes the actual cost of power and the frailty of hope against almost complete darkness. Although their narrative is tragic, it also highlights the fortitude and will of the Jedi, who battled for a better future even after their deaths. Their struggle and the fall of the Inquisitors serve as a reminder that there is always hope for a better future even in the worst of times.
