Uh Oh! PlayStation Plus's October Losses: Is This the Worst Month EVER?
PS Plus October: New Games Arrive, But Gaming Giants Depart!
PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) is adding some new games in October—Dead Island 2 and Gris, among others—but there's a seriously major catch: some of its biggest games are LEAVING! PS Plus, revamped in 2022 to compete with Xbox Game Pass, adds and removes games monthly. And October is shaping up to be brutal. This is huge news. This sudden, unexpectedly enormous shift in PS Plus’s lineup could possibly trigger many PS Plus subscriptions to discontinue, causing a great financial concern.
As reported by IGN, a whole bunch of massive titles—Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and four Kingdom Hearts games (including Kingdom Hearts 3)— are getting the boot in November! That's a huge chunk of the PS Plus library vanishing.
The Full List of PS Plus Departures in November (ouch!):
Here’s that entire list from IGN’s reporting:
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- Kingdom Hearts
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
- Kingdom Hearts 3
- And 15 other games
PS Plus does rotate games— it’s nothing new – yet those departing titles totally eclipse the new arrivals in terms of both name recognition and overall importance! This creates some extremely complex issues! Those October additions; lacking that major recognition could massively hurt PS Plus; diminishing the perception that this is valuable. Re-adding those titles remains a possibility but remains unpredictable – especially as Sony doesn’t provide advanced notice for what changes might arrive in their future lineups.
What This Means for PS Plus Subscribers: Are We Facing a Downturn?
Losing this much value in PS Plus is huge. This might not merely be another regular thing that happens in gaming service subscription libraries – yet this event could become more frequent in the future. PS Plus (and Xbox Game Pass) are both reportedly facing growth stagnation, with fewer big games showing up soon after release.
Sony's actions reflect a wider trend—if these major players leave; causing diminishing quality of life for subscribers; they risk real issues, creating further downturns for these streaming services themselves. They could even face complete removal.
Losing these massive games (without better replacements!) is worrying for PS Plus subscribers; generating doubts regarding their own financial stability; creating questions surrounding this entire service itself, generating much needed attention that some PS Plus consumers are starting to consider!
Conclusion: October’s Additions Don’t Make Up For Those Major Losses!
October looks great at a glance! It features lots of games, plenty for several people to choose from based upon individual tastes. Yet those massive departures are concerning and leave many considering those changes and considering ending their own PS Plus subscription because of how that quality of life was impacted by those key changes – generating another negative effect that affects the market itself, the financial losses and resulting impacts that would necessarily harm any similar games streaming service that’s affected this much in such a brief time period! We will only find out later if it remains just an exceptionally poor month, generating anxieties for this streaming service. Only time will really tell.
