Why RPG Fans Should Be Excited For Flintlock
RPG fans looking for something new to play in July should keep their attention focused on Xbox Game Pass because the subscription service is gaining what could be the next major Soulslike hit. Now that players are (slowly) progressing through Elden Ring's latest expansion, many will undoubtedly soon be looking to scratch that itch that so often occurs after completing an excellent game. Fortunately, developer A44 Games may have just the solution and the best part is that it won't cost Game Pass subscribers an extra dollar.
As confirmed by Pure Xbox, the hotly-anticipated Soulslike Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is arriving as a Day One Release on Game Pass on July 18. That's just under a month away so all those players trying to overcome the punishing boss encounters of Shadow of the Erdtree still have some time to master those builds before leaping into their next challenge. Announced a few years ago, Flintlock recently received a shot in the arm after the release of a stirring gameplay trailer that caught many an eyeball during the most recent Xbox Showcase.
Flintlock Is The Ideal Follow-Up To Elden Ring DLC
While there's not too much known about Flintlock's story and world, the game's promotional material makes it out to be a sprawling Rpg that's oozing Steampunk energy. Described as a "Souls-lite" by A44, players will take on the role of Nor Vanek as they set out on a journey across the land to slay a series of gods that have flooded the world with undead monstrosities. Nor has a variety of weapons at her disposal including the titular flintlock firearm that should combo well with the more standard close-quarters melee tools.
The other reason Elden Ring fans should be paying close attention to Flintlock is that A44 Games is also the studio that created the award-winning Soulslike Ashen. A much more straightforward RPG than many of FromSoftware's games, it's still an excellent example of competent combat and world design with a stunning aesthetic to boot. While the game was unfortunately hampered by its limited enemy variety, it's still regarded as one of the best attempts at recapturing FromSoftware's magic.
Xbox Game Pass Offers More Than Just Flintlock
It's not just Flintlock: The Siege Of Dawn that Xbox Game Pass subscribers can anticipate in July. The service has already locked in several substantial indie releases for the month, including Dungeons of Hinterberg and Flock. While they may not necessarily fill the gaping hole left by Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, it's still nice to have options.
So, if you're looking for your next big RPG adventure after Elden Ring DLC, keep your eyes peeled for Flintlock: The Siege Of Dawn coming to Xbox Game Pass on July 18. And don't forget to check out some of the other indie titles coming to the service as well, including Dungeons of Hinterberg and Flock. You might just find your next favorite game!
