Why Godzilla Had to Kill Tiamat in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire
Seeing Godzilla kill another Titan might seem out of character, but in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, the King of the Monsters had good reasons for taking down Tiamat.
As the Alpha Titan, Godzilla is responsible for keeping other Titans in line, as seen when he stopped Scylla from wreaking havoc in Rome. But Godzilla went out of his way to find Tiamat in her Arctic lair, seemingly without provocation. Here's why he made that difficult decision.
Godzilla and Tiamat Had a History
- Their fight in Godzilla X Kong wasn't their first. Tiamat is a "destroyer" Titan, known for her destructive behavior. Even Godzilla's authority didn't scare her.
- They battled before Godzilla: King of the Monsters, where Tiamat was held in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
- The prequel comics, Godzilla Dominion and Kingdom Kong, showed how their rivalry began.
- Godzilla was recovering after defeating Ghidorah, but Tiamat ambushed him. Godzilla won, but Tiamat managed to blind him and leave him with wounds. They established a tense rivalry then.
Godzilla Needed Tiamat's Power
- Tiamat's Arctic lair was a huge source of radiation, giving her and eventually Godzilla their pink color.
- To get to this energy, Godzilla had to remove Tiamat, and their history made things difficult.
- In the process, Godzilla absorbed Tiamat's DNA, increasing his power, similar to when he absorbed Mothra's DNA to reach his Thermonuclear state.
Saving the World
- Godzilla needed to get stronger to defeat Skar King, a threat from the Hollow Earth.
- He knew he would need a power boost to stand a chance against this new enemy.
- After absorbing Tiamat's DNA, Godzilla could hold 20 times more energy, giving him the edge against Skar King and Shimo.
- Though Tiamat's death was unfortunate, it was necessary for Godzilla to save the world.
