Scarlet Witch's Death in MCU Theory Makes it Even More Tragic

Death of Scarlett Witch in Doctor Strange 2: A Grim MCU Theory

Although the death of Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange 2 was already a tearjerk, a fresh MCU theory grounded on the Agatha All Along trailer makes it even more tragic. Let's explore this dismal theory and see how it might alter our view of Wanda Maximoff's fate.

Agatha All Along Trailer: An Other Approach on Wanda's Death

Agatha All Along's first teaser revealed a dark theory that accentuates Wanda's death even more. Fans still hoped for Wanda's comeback even though Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hinted to her death. But by declaring "that witch is gone," Aubrey Plaza's character dashed those expectations in the Agatha All Along teaser. With this validation, Wanda's sad ending seemed to be confirmed and left fans heartbroken.

One develops a morbid theory: Is another Wanda dead?

Agatha investigating a dead body opens the Agatha All Along trailer. The morgue shows a card bearing W. Maximoff with several dates, even though the deceased's identity is yet unknown. Variety verified Agatha is "investigating Wanda's dead body." This cannot be the same Wanda that perished in the film, though, since she was buried under the Darkhold Castle ruins on Mount Wundagore while sporting her Scarlet Witch outfit.

According to the theory, the body belongs to Earth-838 Wanda, the variation from Doctor Strange 2 that shields her children from Earth-616 Wanda following multiverse travel. The blue sweater and jeans the dead body wears match 838 Wanda's outfit at the climax of Doctor Strange 2. Although this Wanda variant was thought to be still alive at the end of the movie, this fresh information suggests she might have been dead not too long after.

Wanda 838's Potential Death: Impact

Wanda's experience with this other side of herself and her children drove her to choose selflessness in Doctor Strange 2. Seeing the horrified faces of 838 Wanda and her children, 616 Wanda understood the reality of this family and decided to spare them, so renouncing her own wish for a new family. She made sure nobody would be tempted by the Darkhold once the temple was destroyed, so enabling 838 Wanda to be the actual mother to her children.

Should the thesis be accurate and 838 Wanda is dead, the significance of 616 Wanda's sacrifice is lessened. Not only does it present a terrible reality for the alternate family, but it also renders Wanda's choice to abandon search for a new family useless useless. Another Wanda dies, and the moral effect of her giving vanishes as well.

An Interpretive Link to Agatha All Along and Billy Kaplan

Most of Agatha All Along's cast members have their identities kept under wraps. After the first teaser, though, there are speculations that Joe Locke could be portraying Wanda's twins, Billy Kaplan. Locke's rendition could be a variant from another universe or some sort of reincarnation of the MCU version since 616 Wanda's children vanished during Wandavision's finale.

Should Locke's character be a variation, he could be the one from Earth-838 currently looking for explanations for his mother's unexplained death. Having already met a variation of his mother, he might be looking for answers and working with Agatha, who has background with the Scarlet Witch. The pair is traveling on the magical plane known as Witches' Road, which is dangerous and mysterious. Wanda teleported here after self-sacrifice, and Billy might be searching for her to learn about his mother or see her once more.

Though it's only a theory, Agatha All Along's direction will make Wanda's ending even more sad. Though the possibility of another Wanda's death and Billy Kaplan's possible involvement gives Wanda's narrative a layer of complexity and melancholy, it is still to be seen how this possible narrative line will develop.
