Both familiar and completely alien is Middle-earth, Tolkien's books and Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movies. Apart from amazing animals and monsters such as Orcs, trolls, and dragon-like species, fantasy races such Elves and Dwarves abound. Jackson shot his famous trilogy amid the harsh surroundings of New Zealand, although the natural terrain is not particularly unusual. Middle-earth also features exquisite, unique architecture tailored for every race.

Since Middle-earth is essentially a character in The Lord of the Rings, moving Frodo and the Ring to the real world would cause a loss of a vital component that distinguishes the work from other fantasy books. Though the above artwork is indeed an interesting depiction of what would happen if The Lord of the Rings jumped to the actual world in the present, the story is far better off sticking in Middle-earth.
