Basically confirmed is Borderlands 4.
Should Borderlands 4 show up during Summer Game Fest, it would align with past releases of the RPG series. Shortly after Embracer Group sold the studio for $460 million, Take-Two bought Gearbox; it was then revealed that it was working on another Borderlands sequel, maybe its most well-known project. The news followed multiple accounts that the Embracer Group transaction seriously disrupted production but that Borderlands 4 was still in development.
Apart from the expected announcement scheduled to drop during SGF 2024, it appears doubtful that Borderlands 4 will be released very soon. Although development is proceeding without any problems, it is hard to believe that the chronology of the game was unaffected by the recent events at Gearbox. Though this yet to be seen, a careful speculator would set the game down to decline in 2025.
Perhaps already leaked is the biggest surprise announcement from Summer Game Fest.
With Summer Game Fest just around the horizon, the most recent updates on the showcase point to the much awaited Borderlands 4 as the major highlight of the presentation. Though there has been some debate over Gearbox's ownership, the beloved shooter is still viewed as a valuable asset and, considering the success of the third game and the spinoff Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, publisher Take-Two makes logical that publisher would seek a new release. Given Gearbox's confirmation that a fourth core game is under development, an announcement might arrive sooner rather than later.
2K will give a peek of Borderlands 4 during the Summer Game Fest event, claims eXputer leaker Kurakasis. Still uncertain, though, is whether the presentation would also establish a release date. The leaker also notes that the game might be revealed before SGF and the real showcase will be utilized to emphasize gameplay and more specifics on the next chapter in the saga. Like any and all leaks, take this report with a grain of salt; yet, with Summer Game Fest so close, fans won't have to wait long to find out whether it is accurate.
Even after you complete the main plot, Borderlands 3 is plenty with repeating events and unique characters that will keep you busy.
Given that players of Borderlands had to wait seven years between the second and third games, it makes sense that the fourth would take some time more yet. Apart from Borderlands 4, Gearbox has also announced that they are in the early phases of developing a sequel to Tiny Tina's Wonderhouses. This most certainly gonna be revealed during SGF 2024 rather than Borderlands 4. Given the resemblance of the games, it is unlikely that both will be present though. Whatever the case, lovers of Pandora and all its quirky characters should be alert at SGF since even 2K has vowed to highlight one of their most cherished series.
