The franchise for Next Superhero Movies should be painfully obvious (so why hasn't it happened?)
The next superhero movie is clearly what it should be, hence it is difficult not to question why it has not yet materialized. Though they have been around for a while, superhero Live-action films have been rather popular in recent years, enabling the sub-genre to take front stage in Hollywood. While some have embraced the rising popularity of the subgenre with wide arms, others have been somewhat skeptical of its explosive force. But in recent years, the Superhero subgenre has been unduly crowded, which wears viewers out with the consistent fare of superhero films.
This saturation does not inevitably indicate that the Superhero subgenre is about to fade. It also emphasizes how fresh shows have to come out and provide viewers something more than they have seen in the past several years. One superhero series seems scalable enough to become the next major trend in the subgenre and offers exactly that as well. Oddly, though, it has not yet had the chance to shine on major screens.
Ben 10 Would Create a Fantastic Franchise Live-Action Motion Picture
Given the explosion of live-action superhero projects in recent years, it is difficult not to imagine that even Ben 10 might find success into the narrative medium. Examining the animation series closely exposes how it apparently has all the ingredients of a fantastic Live-action film series. Ben Tennyson's account of discovering the Omnitrix and then learning to control it, for example, is no less intriguing than Peter Parker's path as Spider-Man's starting point.
Ben 10 is unlike the usual fare of superheroes in that he has several powers thanks to the range of alien transformations his watch provides. Ben 10's changes during his early years with the Omnitrix also usually include an element of surprise since he is hardly able to control which alien he can turn into. Ben 10 is, in many respects also a mix of numerous heroes rather than a single creature since every alien transformation has a unique personality. Ben has a strong support network, comprising his grandfather Max and cousin Gwen, much as any great superhero does. Apart from assisting Ben, the two even offer their special set of abilities when Ben encounters alien threats. The sibling dynamic of Ben and Gwen also gives the show a depth of humorous fun and relatability that the live-action media can readily depict. Many of the intriguing villains the Ben 10 animated series presents— Vilgax, Kevin 11, and Dr. Animo—many of which might be accurately shown in live-action—are introduced during its running length.
Ben 10 Already Gets Twice The Live-Action Treatment
Most viewers would only know the original Ben 10 animated series and maybe the animated movies. The franchise does, nevertheless, also feature two live-action adaptations. First of these, Race Against Time, debuted in 2007; second, Alien Swarm, came out in 2009. Alexander Winter, well known for playing Ted in the Bill & Ted films, directed both movies. Though the movies did a good job of capturing the core of Ben 10 in live-action, they missed the franchise's actual live-action potential.
Given both were television movies, they most certainly had financial restrictions that kept them from fully exploring the visual spectacular a live-action picture can provide. A Ben 10 movie with a large budget full-fledged theatrical release will not only satisfy fans of the original animated series but also attract the attention of new viewers due of the franchise's popularity. Unlike other live-action adaptations, a fresh live-action Ben 10 movie might potentially play on more superhero clichés to appeal to viewers all around.
Why Ben 10 Still Missing a Big-Budget Live-Action Film?
Why is the Ben 10 franchise still mostly unrealized on the live-action front? Cartoon Network is one of its most reliable series, thus it is likely that the network does not want to risk tarnishing its name with a live-action movie flops. The Ben 10 animated series was also aimed mainly at younger viewers, so its restricted reach and scalability could be another factor preventing its complete development into a live-action Superhero Franchise.
An animated series clearly has the potential to become the next major live-action superhero franchise, but it is still unexplored. Ben 10 is the ideal prospect for a successful live-action franchise with its interesting idea, likable characters, and varied alien ensemble. With a broad following already, the franchise is already a hit; a large-budget live-action film could readily translate that success to the big screen. The superhero genre is always changing, hence Hollywood could test Ben 10 and see how a popular cartoon series might become the next great thing in the film business.
Ben 10: Examining the Franchise from Years Past
Created by Cartoon Network, the animated series Ben 10 revolves on the exploits of teenage Ben Tennyson with the Omnitrix, a tool enabling him to change into several extraterrestrial animals. First shown in 2006, the original show is the first one of a franchise comprising Alien Force, Ultimate Alien, Omniverse, and a 2016 revival.
With its action-packed adventures, fascinating characters, and imaginative alien designs, the Ben 10 franchise has enthralled viewers for more than a ten-year. While highlighting the value of teamwork and the need of using one's skills for good, the show has looked at ideas of friendship, responsibility, and self-discovery. Ben 10 is evidence of the ongoing potency of animation storytelling given its broad appeal and continuing popularity.
