The DC Universe is known for its epic stories and some of the coolest characters! But get this, things just changed drastically!
The Multiverse… It's Gone?
In a shocking twist, the DC multiverse as we know it, is no more! It all went down in Absolute Power #4 and DC All In Special #1, both released by DC Comics.
The big villain, Amanda Waller, was up to no good and tried her best to take control of everything and steal the power of the greatest heroes on Prime Earth. It’s no secret that Waller went all the way by setting her eyes on all the different earths of the DC Universe.
The Flash Takes Action
In this remarkable story the heroes and their team fought Amanda Waller's forces head on! One of the major changes came into focus when The Flash went against some truly unexpected speedsters that came from different universes!
Green Lantern helps stop these multiversal villains as The Flash takes on a very special mission of analyzing Waller's multiversal machine and what happened next changes the DC Universe!
The Flash realizes there is only one course of action! To cut off Prime Earth from all those other worlds. To do that, The Flash destroyed Waller’s gate!
A Look At The Multiverse:
The DC Universe's multiverse isn't something that just recently came about. If anything, it's evolved over time.
- Barry Allen (from The Flash #123), way back in the day, was actually the one who discovered different universes as he did a little jump! To another world that belonged to the Golden Age heroes.
- After these early years, DC really made the multiverse super complex, to the point there were countless universes. This went on for ages.
- Crisis on Infinite Earths cut things short by making one unified timeline. There was even an effort by Alexander Luthor to revive the multiverse by getting together 52 Earths and worlds.
- However, these shifts are so unique because of what happens as things were redefined by the massive event called Dark Nights: Death Metal!
- This huge shift, led to creating an "omniverse", with all those universes from all the different points in DC history, still around! And this would be the most notable one.
- What might also have created more turmoil, is that Pariah nearly wrecked reality itself, this is also one of those events where you might think things couldn't get any worse!
- But The Justice League stepped up to the plate.
DC's Universe Shrinks
Things changed dramatically with Amanda Waller's scheme being stopped. What happened next though completely changed things.
That wasn't even half of the story, though. Another epic series from DC comics, DC All In Special #1 came out around the same time, where Darkseid's actual physical body is destroyed. But it gets weirder. There was this energy left behind.
- Darkseid’s energy finds a home!
- There's this totally different Earth, which got dubbed "Elseworld" that felt the brunt of it.
What makes "Elseworld" so unique? The Darkseid's energy turned into The Absolute Universe!
Prime Earth And Its Only Neighbor
Even if some universes are being explored by DC Comics ( Batman: Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age and DC vs. Vampires: World War V) this doesn't have much of an effect on Prime Earth because The Flash's actions to destroy that multiversal gate had a major effect. Now, Prime Earth's only neighbor is The Absolute Universe.
What Is Next For The DC Universe?
The DC Universe's changes weren't unexpected, and it doesn't seem to really spell the end! You can imagine the effects for the future, now that there isn't a whole world of characters. Fans should keep an eye out, however, the multiverse is now more contained!
Even if there is a loss of having tons of characters for DC it’s interesting to see if the changes affect future story-lines for both Prime Earth and this "Absolute Universe"
Fans are in for some exciting adventures as DC reinvents the wheel! They create a new era with these bold moves that leave us in anticipation as the adventures from these shows continue.
