The Fun and Frolic of Episode #5
Episode #5, dubbed "Dig Up the Dirt!!" in My Deer Friend Nokotan’s world of deer-girl-mischief, gave us an unexpected, and probably totally unintended, action-packed moment. Koshitan, who just kinda looks tough but actually a total goofball in disguise, got beat up by some really serious delinquents at school, just for fun, you know? Poor Koshitan is in the middle of a struggle, trying to live up to her tough-girl reputation, when those thugs arrive and beat her to a pulp - it's tough to see! But just when we thought Koshitan was down for the count, along came Nokotan, armed with one of her magic antlers. She goes all out with the “explosion-power”, and suddenly, we're all back to a world where we thought it was totally cool to have a high school classroom blown to smithereens.
That crazy deer antler moment was an amazing showcase for Wit Studios’ animation too – think explosive power with sparkles! I can't decide what I loved more – those silly characters and those creative animated bits. All of this took a detour to the zoo when Koshitan made the crazy decision to spy on Nokotan to find those “weaknesses”. That resulted in a trip to a petting zoo, which you wouldn't think would be as exciting, but of course, it is when your main character has antlers. Just watch it; you’ll understand!

My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode #5 didn’t go as far in developing the plot as other episodes, but it's still loads of fun to see those characters. It’s almost as if the show is embracing its own craziness with its silliness, the hilarious "rambo-style" bits, and that super creative, animation-quality! There was one fun, unexpected moment with Koshitan when she got a chance to actually show off her own brand of awesome without becoming the target of all those goofy jokes we always see, but then BAM, Nokotan had a magic antler moment.
The "Nekoyamada" episode brought those amazing Anime twists too. Nekoyamada decided she was going to bring down the Deer Club with a cunning strategy, and maybe even become an infiltrator? Nope. She joined them and was just happy to have someone to hang out with (well, it was an exciting change of pace!), so instead of some sneaky villain move, we got another awesome visual gag, some awesome animation ( think "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind", but deer), and, of course, some of that unique humor.
