Nier: The anime's game-changer for the episode #14, Automaton Ver1.1a, leaves viewers yearning episode #15. The narrative has reached a turning point that reflects the plot of the game, thus fans start to question how things will turn out.

But things took a sinister turn when the Goliath-style machine lifeforms reversed the tide, severely handicapped YoRHa.
When the machine lifeforms unleashed a massive EMP, the conflict went out of hand and almost every Android became infected by a Logic Virus. Driven mad by this virus, androids attacked their own allies and even turned to suicide. The operation of Yorha collapsed, and the emphasis moved from defeating the machine lifeforms to fighting amongst oneself. But 9S escaped the hold of the virus. Seeking the cause of the virus, 9S finds the Logic Virus originating from a backdoor in the data synchronizing ports of the androids. Understanding he is in danger, he searches 2B quickly before it is too late.
Episode #14 concluded with a cliffhanger on 2B's future. But the opening and ending theme songs for season two of the anime show 2B as someone 9S is losing permanently or as someone who has turned away from the fighting. This points to 2B perhaps dying in line with the plot of the original game.
Although this looks like a reasonable result, it might also be a red herring. The death of 2B is a well-known feature of the game, thus the anime might be purposefully suggesting it to generate more surprise should something different transpires.
Although setting the scene dominated Episode #14, it was nevertheless a highly interesting and intense one. The music and general episode direction added to the exciting suspense created by YoRHa's expected triumph turning into their approaching catastrophe.
