A trailer from the forthcoming Doctor Who episode features the doctor blocked on social media. Running 26 seasons between 1963 and 1989, the legendary British science fiction series was revived in 2005 and follows a Time Lord with the ability to regenerate form who is known as The Doctor and travels across time and space in a vehicle called the TARDIS looking like a police call box. Ncuti Gatwa represents the role, the Fifteenth Doctor, in the current Doctor Who season 14.
The official BBC Doctor Who X account has uploaded a clip from the forthcoming season 14 episode "Dot and Bubble". Look at it below. Lindy Pepper-Bean (Callie Cooke) is shown in the footage surfing a futuristic Social Media feed during a beatific tooth brushing session and responding with delight to different messages that surface. Though the Doctor's unwelcome warning of approaching monsters and imminent peril does not fit the lovely, luminous environment of the rest of the stream, which gets him blocked despite good intentions.
With this trailer, the BBC seems to be promising that "Dot and Bubble" will adopt a similar satirical bent to another of Britain's biggest science fiction series, Black Mirror. Over the years, both series have transported viewers to innumerable locations and eras; in fact, quite a few Doctor Who cast members have made appearances on Black Mirror, including Tobias Menzies, James Norton, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jodie Whittaker. But this "Dot and Bubble" clip follows specifically a couple of Black Mirror episodes.
Playing the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker showed up in the Black Mirror season 1 episode "The Entire History of You" in 2011. Aesthetically, "Dot and Bubble" does have some resemblance to Kaluuya's 2011 episode "Fifteen Million Merits," which likewise shows screens taking the stage in people's life. Still, it is by far most like the 2013 "Nosedive" episode featuring Bryce Dallas Howard. That occurrence occurred in a society dominated by Social Media where the soft pastels of the interface essentially completely concealed the harsh underside of living life more or less totally via a social feed.

Although social networking is a contemporary trend that hasn't been around long enough to be regularly parodied on the program, it has established a habit of drawing in many modern trends for different plots over the years. Actually, the revived show included a whole season 1 episode on the emergence of reality television and Big Brother in particular, highlighting their early taste for such satire.
