Yellowstone Season 5: Carter's Growth Spurt and Storyline Changes

The hit show Yellowstone has kept fans on the edge of their seats! This series has not only created its own universe with shows like 1883 and 1923 but keeps finding new ways to bring interesting stories to its viewers.

Carter's Growth Spurt

One of the most interesting characters is Carter, played by Finn Little. His journey in Yellowstone season 5 has changed significantly. He's known for being the cute kid who was taken under the wing of Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly).

Beth's Character

Beth Dutton is well-known for having that cold, tough exterior but in fact, has experienced extreme hardship! Beth has a troubled past and painful memories. She lost her mother at an early age, something no one ever really gets over! Even the loss of her brother Lee in the first episode! That didn't help her to cope with the trauma! There's another detail! The effects of an abortion that she went through that deeply hurt her and the decision to avoid ever having kids! At least until Carter came into the picture!

Carter's Arrival

Carter made his first appearance in season 4, episode 1, "Half the Money". Beth discovers Carter at a hospital. The child was struggling as his father passed away, making Beth decide to look out for him. When police officials sought to take Carter away from Beth she manages to cleverly explain he's under her guardianship!

At first, Rip (played by Cole Hauser) had a lot of trouble trusting Carter and Beth's commitment! But things turned out remarkably well. Rip felt the situation could impact Beth greatly, if things went south, fearing another hurt!

The bond between Beth, Rip and Carter helped them form a family! Carter started opening up, allowing Beth to become the mother she always wanted to be. That really meant a special opportunity for Beth to work through some past traumas! For Carter, this became a way for him to develop his sense of self and work on becoming an adult.

Carter's Reduced Screen Time

Now this is where things got interesting for viewers who loved Carter!

The big changes to his character appear in season 5. Viewers barely see him and most of that focus happens in episode 6. ("Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You") where he had his special moment meeting someone who could make things interesting! There are other details!

Fans loved Carter from the get-go, as many saw his youthful look from season 4! In season 5 though, things changed drastically!

Little has had a substantial growth spurt! Going from a much shorter child to someone who is 6'1"!
Little made fans notice his growth through his posts on Instagram, receiving messages showing excitement!

That alone may not be the answer but what fans could point to is how much Little's appearance has made Carter's storyline get shifted! The transition may seem difficult. Fans still get excited but his appearance in the show has shifted in a notable manner! The next season will probably bring Carter to life and be the big reveal of Yellowstone's season 6! For sure it's going to keep the audiences on the edge of their seats as they figure out what the Yellowstone team will do next!
