Jennifer Lien left Star Trek: Voyager after three seasons, though her character Kes was vital to the show. As the Star Trek Voyager cast travelled through the Delta Quadrant, Kes had a lot of stories and she even formed a romance with Kes Romance Neelix. But then, there was a change in Star Trek Voyager production!
Fans loved the performance from Jennifer Lien but had mixed opinions on how Kes was handled. Producers stated in later interviews that Kes Departure Voyager came after several challenges! This included a lack of storylines for the character due to her unique Ocampa biology and limited Ocampa Lifespan. Even though she possessed Kes Telepathic Abilities and powerful Kes Psychic Powers, it did not save her character.
In an interview from 2020, there was even another reason that was stated regarding her leaving. A book by Ben Robinson and Mark Wright suggests that Jennifer Lien had a decline in mental health, which had some impact on Star Trek Voyager creative direction and her time on the show.
With Star Trek Voyager looking for a Star Trek Voyager Replacement to join the Star Trek Voyager Cast, they settled on Seven of Nine! Jeri Ryan came in with incredible Kes Character Development, which also changed the story of the series.
Although Kes had a final scene, there is a possibility for her return in future seasons of Star Trek: Prodigy. Unfortunately, Jennifer Lien left acting following her Star Trek Voyager Legacy, so the odds of seeing her play the role are unlikely.
Yes! It certainly changed events in Star Trek Voyager. Kes travelled back to alter events for a Kes Episode that focused on her time with the ship's crew in "Fury," an Star Trek Voyager Episode from Season 6. Even though the crew made attempts to save her, there were several unexpected twists!
Fans have given Jennifer Lien a place of respect in the Star Trek Family and are hopeful for a resurgence of the beloved Kes Character Development as well. The unique stories, especially Kes storylines and Kes Mental Health Issues were memorable and fans are curious if future projects may feature a Kes Return Star Trek Voyager!
