Why Was The Office’s Andy Bernard So Unlikeable in The Final Seasons?
So many fans love the Office! It is one of those hilarious shows with such memorable characters. However, things went downhill for Andy in the later seasons and, you know, no one is sure what to think about that!
What Happened to Andy?
Remember Andy Bernard in The Office? Those early Office seasons made him look like one of the best Office characters - but in those final seasons - oh my. Andy was going through a whole lot of drama and was so messed up! It seemed like it was all downhill after his relationship with Erin went south! You might have seen it coming - all those weird relationship troubles, with Angela! And losing friends like Michael, that was a tough one too.
Was Andy Ever Popular?
- Andy never quite felt like he fit in at Dunder Mifflin! Sure, those a cappella days were a bit of fun, but after college, it seemed like he was trying to prove he could be a good Office regional manager.
- People kinda brushed him off when The Scranton branch merged with the Stamford office!
Was the Character Development Okay?
- When you compare his character arc - well, the final two seasons of The Office, with the way he started, there is this wild contrast.
- It almost feels like they did this on purpose! It seemed like Andy started to get a redemption arc - he was really trying to make things right - but then the producers made it seem like a downward spiral in the final Office seasons.
- It seems so cruel! This poor guy was trying to bring a sense of family together.
- It was like those character assassination moments! It's kind of a shame, though, because he started out pretty lovable! He tried to help others with things like sharing food or hanging out! He totally wanted a happy workplace but didn't get a chance to shine.
Why Did The Final Seasons Go Wrong?
Think about how much fans really liked Andy in earlier seasons. But, Season 9 is what really broke a lot of fans hearts! Andy got super confused - and totally lost in his own head, going through his midlife crisis. The poor guy had a tough time, losing his fiancé and girlfriend - but this did make fans realize it wasn't all about him.
You have to love The Office's humor - all the pranks and the ridiculousness, and especially, you gotta love how those Office characters grow and change over time - so much happens in Dunder Mifflin and that little Scranton branch! That's why fans were really expecting a great story for Andy! I guess the Office had its own unique way of bringing things to a close. And maybe it does make fans appreciate those early seasons - with all the funny episodes with Michael Scott as the regional manager! It might make you wonder if this will happen to any of those other characters as The Office is growing and developing even in the years after those last Office seasons!
