Who's The Boss? Reboot Update: Is the Classic Sitcom Returning?

Remember those amazing family-friendly sitcoms of the 1980s and 1990s? You know, the ones with great heart, tons of fun moments and that familiar family warmth?

"Who's the Boss?" brought viewers into an unforgettable home! A series about a man with an unlikely career, the hilarious duo of Tony Danza as Tony Micelli, who became a live-in housekeeper and Alyssa Milano, a teenager who got the big role of Samantha!

The Return Of "Who's The Boss"?

It is about time they came back! There have been big-time talks about a "Who's The Boss" reboot for a few years. The series would have brought back a whole host of familiar faces as we're given an idea of how they've changed. This means the stars, Danza, and Milano, would take on new challenges in a fresh new adaptation.

It hasn't always gone according to plan but hopefully, fans might just see this project make it to screens. It looked promising as the original series from 1984 was on a fast track toward success! It even got the recognition, from audiences all around the world, to be considered one of the great, nostalgic classics of sitcom humor.

Things really started moving as there was an initial, big deal that seemed pretty set in stone. Freevee, Amazon’s streaming service. It jumped in to create this show and gave those that had been wishing for it something to celebrate. But then it was canceled.

Unfortunately, this was another setback! It looked like there might just be a big opportunity for the series, especially considering "Freevee” got an exciting update. They even came out with the new moniker as they were originally "IMDbTV." But, no matter how many names the service had! Sadly, it looked like it never gained enough attention for it to move ahead!

While the decision might not be great, it didn’t really spell the end for "Who's The Boss?" and it means it could pop up again. We may even see this on a platform we've never imagined before.!

Even more than two years later the producers haven't made any announcements!

That brings up a fun fact! Fans of "Who's The Boss?" are truly invested, and the series really did create one of the big classics for "ABC.", becoming super popular among audiences and critics as well! In 2020, it looked like Alyssa Milano made one super surprising announcement, saying that they had begun creating the reboot! The series got recognized during the 1980s for Danza’s fantastic performance.

In just a few months, more and more details started popping up! They really did want to see those incredible stars.

A New Generation

It is time for some more fun! We'll also get to see just what life has in store for this new set of characters! This is all going to be super exciting. This is going to have to wait. Milano gave some real hints into the potential storylines in "Who's The Boss?"

Here are a few amazing insights she shared:

  • Milano returns with a fresh twist as Samantha. She'll now be a single mother and since her role now means traveling for work!
  • Fans of the original show will recall how this storyline is one of those super popular situations for sitcoms. In the new storyline we see Samantha, much like "Angela," who had to work on building a new life! That's where the return of Danza's character steps in and they will once again work as a team in this new, funny adaptation!

So Tony Micelli gets back into action but not as a baseball player but a housekeeper, and it is really a big twist that this show will explore!

The big story, as Milano pointed to! The two families will have new, fun dynamic because there are a couple of big changes!

This list might be missing a few details as we'll need to wait for more announcements! But fans who want to see some recognizable faces have plenty to look forward to.

  • "Tony Danza" will take his role back and we can see that Tony has got a few big things coming in his life that will turn his world upside down! He is not in Major League Baseball and takes a big leap to find work for Samantha as she embarks on a new chapter in her own life.
  • Milano plays Samantha and audiences are curious to see her return as the strong, independent woman in a modern era!

It appears the future of Judith Light is not clear! She was a fantastic addition to the series as a single woman!

That's "Angela Bower", the strong-willed woman who had her share of memorable arguments and awesome moments!

While her return could be incredibly awesome it is not clear whether the original star will be joining this reboot. The stars are set. It's possible there could be a huge comeback!

As for Danny Pintauro, who gave his acting career a second life and was an important part of "Who's The Boss?" in the past. The original show even saw him playing a major role in all eight seasons, and this reboot is still under consideration.

It seems there is one missing cast member who was very influential for the original show: "Katherine Helmond!" That's a true sadness for this beloved cast who went on to have an important role as Mona Robinson. As fans know this series wasn't about only being in one episode, they went through the entire arc of the show, which was something we really looked forward to.

This could make things more difficult, however, since it may be harder for this series to replace a major character, in particular one that had such an impact.

It seems, the producers of "Who's The Boss?" are making a big splash! We are not going to get a lot of the information out about what the big-picture will be, and some of it is truly just conjecture as of right now.

This isn't just speculation! If you check out the recent interviews, fans can get hints! But nothing definitive!

As of now it appears we can only speculate! Will this be another iconic hit for audiences or, perhaps not make it to TV and be a show that keeps those who watched, on the edges of their seat with big expectations.

It might just take some time! Make sure to keep a lookout for new news coming out! The team behind it are very dedicated and hopeful, which is really cool! Fans of "Who's The Boss?" are ready, even after a few years! But maybe if you start watching this amazing, nostalgia-filled, show, it may give everyone a reason to have high hopes for a fresh, modern and maybe even better adaptation!
