In House of the Dragon, who is more powerful—Vermithor or Vhagar?
It's interesting to wonder in House of the Dragon, Vhagar or Vermithor, who is more strong. Both have legendary size and great battle experience, among the biggest and oldest dragons in Westeros. Although Vhagar is the biggest living dragon in the series, when comparing these two formidable creatures, one should take into account other criteria including age, rider, and battle experience beyond size.
Verheimor Dragon Authority
Vermithor is among the oldest and biggest dragons in House Of The Dragon, born 34 years following the Conquest. In terms of scale, he was the second-largest dragon on the show—just behind Balerion and Vhagar. Though smaller than Vhagar, Vermithor is still a powerful dragon. Jaehaerys Targaryen claimed him; he would subsequently become king after Maegor I passed away.
Vermithor's Years and Battle Experience
Vhagar has seen more battles than Vermithor by the events of season 2, thus she has a little edge in experience. Vermithor's younger age is a major advantage though. A younger, more agile dragon like Vermithor could possibly outmaneuver the older Vhagar since a 180-year-old Vhagar is probably considerably slower and less resistant than a 100-year-old Vermithor.
Hugh Hammer's Rider from Vermithor
Although Daemon Targaryen wakes Vermithor in the first season of House Of The Dragon, it is not Daemon who rides the dragon finally. Vermithor assigns a different rider—a dragonseed called Hugh Hammer, the bastard son of a blacksmith. Hugh Hammer is a competent warrior and a great advantage for the Blacks' side during the Dance of the Dragons, thus this decision is important.
Vhagar Dragon Strength
Unquestionably the biggest dragon in House Of The Dragon, Vhagar boasts a long and terrible past. Riding Vhagar throughout the Conquest of Westeros, Visenya Targaryen, one of Aegon the Conqueror's sisters, Vhagar has killed other dragons and seen innumerable conflicts. She is thus a strong opponent even if she is not in her prime.
Vhagar's Age and Conflict Experience
Near 180 years old, Vhagar is among the oldest dragons in Westeros during the events of House of the Dragon. Her great edge over Vermithor in terms of battle ability comes from this great experience. She has shown her might and tenacity by fighting in many battles, including one against another dragons.
Vhagar's Rider: Aemond Targaryen
Vhagar's rider is nephew Aemond Targaryen, Daemon Targaryen's. Aemond is a strong opponent since he is a talented warrior and dragonrider. He is a dangerous enemy since of his merciless ambition.
Vhagar Against Vermithor: A Close Fight
Vhagar would most certainly win in a direct confrontation between him and Vermithor. Still, Vermithor's younger age and Hugh Hammer's riding prowess could possibly even equal the odds. The fate of a conflict between these two dragons would finally rely on the riding ability of their riders and the fighting conditions.
Vermithor's Future in Dragon House
Vermithor's rider Hugh Hammer determines his fate in House of the Dragon. Hugh Hammer betrays Rhaenyra and changes allegiances to Aegon II, although first supporting her in the Dance of the Dragons. He battles for Aegon in the First Battle of Tumbleton, but finally seeks to take the throne for himself.
Death in the Second Battle of Tumbleton Vermithor
Hugh Hammer dies before he can get to Vermithor during the Second Battle of Tumbleton. Once more riderless, Vermithor battles alongside Seasmoke and Tessarion but finally falls in combat. For the dragons of Westeros, his passing marks a sad loss and evidence of the damage the Dance of the Dragons causes.
Vhagar Against Caraxes: An Old Battle
Vhagar's final destiny rests on her rider, Aemond Targaryen. Vhagar confronts Daemon Targaryen's dragon, Caraxes, in a fabled conflict above the God's Eye. One of the most important events in the Dance of the Dragons is this great struggle shown in the book Fire & Blood.
Vhagar and Caraxes: The Death
Vhagar and Caraxes fall to their deaths in the terrible climax of the struggle above the God's Eye. Riding these amazing creatures, Daemon and Aemond also die in this great meeting. With the death of these two dragons, a chapter in Westeros' history closes.
In essence, Vhagar against Vermithor
Both strong dragons, Vhagar and Vermithor had flaws as well. Vermithor was younger and more agile; Vhagar was bigger and more experienced. A brutal conflict, the Dance of the Dragons finally claimed the lives of both dragons and left a legacy of destruction and evidence of the might of these legendary beings.
