Given the degree of freedom given to players in Baldur's Gate 3, it makes reasonable that many would use this freedom to design some quite harsh trials; but, possibly one of the most brutal has just been vanquished. Honor Mode, a setting meant to eradicate most of the exploits players usually use to negotiate some of the challenging encounters, is the most punitive way to go through Larian Studios' RPG without players self-imposing any constraints upon themselves. Still, some felt that even with only one save and permadeath, that wasn't enough.
Streamer Luality, who posted a video of their triumph on X (previously Twitter), just finished Baldur's Gate 3's most taxing self-imposed task. Using Tadpoles, conversing with Withers to respec their build or recruit hirelings, they managed to finish the whole campaign without any Companions, Long or Short Rests, Trading or Stealing from NPC. Given the limits in place, especially considering the challenge was finished in Honor Mode, meaning they weren't permitted to die once, Luality's enthusiasm for finishing the run is absolutely justified.
Though Luality isn't quite ready to call it a day on Baldur's Gate 3, implying that they already have some ideas on how to create an even more grueling campaign, despite their amazing success Though it's yet unknown what they are, it's hard to picture the experience becoming much more demanding. Luality mentions in outlining how they finished the most recent run that their character was never able to recover Spell Slots owing to their inability to Rest, and all healing had to be done with potions discovered organically in the world.
What further complicates Luality's Honor run without considering the absence of resources and help that can usually be found in a typical game of Baldur's Gate 3? Luck. The throw of the dice often determines success and failure; so, players should create characters best suited for success on as many checks as feasible. Luality's performance not only shows their general game knowledge but also their complex sense of character development to withstand the several die rolls thrown their way.
Baldur's Gate 3 offers a somewhat challenging RPG experience. Even experienced genre players find the game challenging. There are many difficulties there, many of which are arbitrary and unanticipated. The design of the game features a strong learning curve and is not for the timid. The difficulties of the game have many players paralyzed and annoyed.
Having said that, the game is plenty flexible enough for users to fit their particular tastes and level of ability. Those who invest time to become proficient in the game will have a rich and gratifying experience. The several choices available to players help them to make the game as challenging as they choose.
Baldur's Gate 3 might have finished development, but those wishing for Larian Studios to create more games centered in the Dungeons & Dragons universe would have to accept loss. The company has stated that two original games situated within their own universe are just beginning development. Though the exact release date is yet unknown, given the studio's stellar reputation for excellence, it could be some time yet.
Baldur's Gate 3's success has demonstrated the force of player agency and choice. The vast and complex universe of the game gives players great latitude in how they approach the game. Popularity of the game makes it abundantly evident that there is a big need for games with high degree of replayability, with lots of freedom and a sense of emergent gameplay.
