The last real update? 2021! Yeon Sang-ho was asked about a third film, but kept it intentionally vague: “I personally think that for “Train to Busan,” I would like to continue that as a film series.” And he really meant it!

Here's exactly what he said: “There are a lot of ideas I’ve been tossing around but I personally think that for “Train To Busan,” I would like to continue that as a film series. In Korea, the circumstances are not very favorable to create a series in the Korean language with visuals that are comparable to “Train to Busan” the film and also, you know, I have to work with … the distributor that we started on the original film as well. So I think taking into consideration all of those conditions, a film series would be the most feasible.” He sounded keen— yet without specific plans!

The overall storyline seems pretty straightforward to most people involved, it has some really obvious aspects involving the continuation from previous entries into the story: Children and their experiences in apocalyptic situations were deeply explored. This makes exploring Korean youth’s experience really interesting! The possible exploration regarding the mysterious origins of the whole zombie plague seems also extremely credible, expanding beyond those other films’ narratives, generating ideas never established!

The specific plot details? We simply have nothing right now. Any time point from the existing timeline could happen— they could continue the timeline with another time-jump into that post-apocalyptic wasteland, or even look into those periods that were completely left out, possibly demonstrating various struggles across different eras. Those various options are exactly what makes this potential production quite appealing!
