Tower of God's Triumphant Return Works Despite Slow Start
Tower Of God: Return of the Prince understandably, but unfortunately, focuses too much on its new protagonist, Ja Wangnan, before getting to what fans care about: Bam.
While some fans were concerned about the direction of Tower Of God season 2, the first episode, titled "Return of the Prince", eventually quells those fears, but not as immediately as some hoped. Ja Wangnan takes center stage for the majority of the episode, but Bam's eponymous return does happen by the end, and its impact is massive, even if it wasn't worth the wait.
Bam's Incredible Transformation Makes Sense and Helps Propel Ja to Possible Greatness
Bam's surprising change in character is arguably one of the most stunning developments in the entire Tower of God series. Bam's innocence and trust in others made him endearing in season 1, but he had not truly lost anything, as Shibisu mentioned. This meant he didn't have to fight to regain what was taken from him, which made him less relatable. Now, Bam has indeed lost something, and it's affected him to such a degree that he's now the intriguing, dark, brooding, tortured hero type.
Bam's transformation makes sense, even though it's sudden. One character mentions that Bam is wearing the clothing of a faction known as FUG, which openly opposes Jahad. If Bam espouses FUG's beliefs, then it's possible that he blames Rachel's betrayal on being manipulated by Jahad, since the Tower of God belongs to him. This suggests Bam might not be motivated by vengeance on Rachel, but on the King of Jahad, which is believable.
A scene where Ja Wangnan exclaims his desire to climb the Tower is important because it causes Bam to remember Rachel. This scene proves that Bam clearly sees Rachel's conviction in Ja, and this will likely define their relationship going forward.
Tower of God: Return of the Prince failed to address the issues that some viewers had with its first episode until after the 20-minute mark. Some may say this was too late, but at least Bam is now expected to be there with Ja Wangnan for the long haul.
