Everyone knows about "The West Wing." This series from Aaron Sorkin is truly amazing!
A Look At "The West Wing:
What made the series so incredibly popular? Well, it is a behind the scenes glimpse at what's happening in the White House! But the truth is this series takes viewers to the heart of Washington DC.
It was such a hit that for so many viewers it was a love letter to politics, and with the help of Sorkin's iconic characters and rapid-fire dialog that makes everyone in this show's world super engaging. Sorkin was at the helm of this big show until the 4th season.
The 7th season closed out "The West Wing," which ran on NBC.
A Successor Show- The Newsroom
That means "The West Wing" left an incredible void. After it was done, many viewers and those who had a chance to watch were left feeling lost! This prompted Sorkin to put together The Newsroom (coming to HBO).
What really sets this series apart? It takes those memorable features that Sorkin had done before, like amazing dialog and an intricate story, but he shifts the focus! We aren't going to have an awesome drama with politicians. It looks to give fans a look behind the curtain at newsrooms!
We learn about all the things that go on when producing news, and it comes with great intensity. It may even make you wonder if a job like that has any type of chill!
The news channel in "The Newsroom," is "Atlantis Cable News." Its goal is to be truthful! Even with major hurdles, such as corporations, commercials and the daily lives of these fascinating reporters! The two shows have so much in common!
- It has so many of the big ideas that make it so entertaining.
- It has an important focus that drives the show, looking into a society, or at least one where these key parts journalism, is the heart. It is able to showcase the way journalism impacts democracy.
How Does The Newsroom Compare To "The West Wing:
Fans and critics often talk about Sorkin's works! And they had amazing opinions. One of the biggest themes from Sorkin's work was to get the point across about the ideals, morals and why a truth is a goal we need to strive for, which brings us to The Newsroom.
What it gave everyone was a glimpse into some great behind-the-scenes stories.
That's not the only thing that's incredibly important!
- Sorkin delivers incredible dialogue with sharp and witty moments
- He brought in amazing characters that viewers couldn't help but fall in love with
- Everyone was passionate about their work! It really set up The Newsroom as an incredibly intriguing series
The Lack of Success In The Newsroom
In comparison to The West Wing, which lasted for 154 episodes, The Newsroom, which ran for 25 episodes!
That doesn't necessarily mean that it didn't hit the right marks with the audience! Those who watched were engaged and could get into the story!
Fans thought it did a great job capturing the behind the scenes, drama!
Even if this show wasn't a super popular pick and some people even called it a "preachy" series. Even though the show gave an in-depth view into major stories from newspapers that everyone was reading in 2012 such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill or the assassination of Osama bin Laden! It looks like fans who enjoyed this show will forever hold The Newsroom, very dear.
It didn't match the "West Wing's" influence but did give audiences a new look at what news production could really be. The one criticism from Sorkin is that it didn't really match up to what he really wanted for this series and has apologized about it as well.
