The Sandman Season 2 Is Confirmed
Netflix announced The Sandman would get a second season just three months after the first season premiered. Neil Gaiman confirmed the news and said he was working on the next season. Production was delayed due to the Hollywood strikes, but is now underway.
The Sandman season 1 debuted on August 5, 2022.
Sandman Season 2 Cast
Several new additions have joined the cast of The Sandman Season 2, including the long-awaited arrival of other members of The Endless. Adrian Lester will play Destiny, Esmé Creed-Miles will play Delirium, and Barry Sloane will play The Prodigal.
Tom Sturridge returns as Morpheus, the main character of the series. Kirby Howell-Baptiste will return as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Donna Preston as Despair. The new cast also includes Steve Coogan as the voice of Barnabas, Indya Moore as Wanda, Ann Skelly as Nuala, Douglas Booth as Cluracan, Ruairi O'Connor as Orpheus, Freddie Fox as Loki, Laurence O'Fuarain as Thor, Clive Russell as Odin, and Jack Gleeson as Puck.
The Sandman Season 2 Story Details
Neil Gaiman has mentioned five locations in The Sandman universe that connect to moments in the comics. He mentioned Destiny's garden, which is a reference to "Seasons of the Mist," where Lucifer abdicates the throne of Hell and gives it to Dream. This would match the order the comics have been adapted so far.
Locations like Ancient Greece and revolutionary France connect to storylines "The Song of Orpheus" and "Thermidor." These could mean that Orpheus, seen in BTS photos, could be featured in the new season. If The Sandman adapts "Seasons of the Mist" and the other aforementioned storylines, it would match the introduction of Destiny and Delirium, Dream's siblings set to appear in Season 2.
There Will Be Big Character Changes In The Sandman Season 2
In addition to the new cast, some of the biggest changes in season 2 will be character tweaks. Audiences criticized the portrayal of Despair (Donna Preston), the only plus-sized character in season 1. In response, Neil Gaiman plans to make character changes, saying the show "missed what we were aiming for." He said that "the next time you see Despair...you won’t think of her as frumpy, depressed and unloved." The first teaser for season 2 revealed Despair with a brand-new costume and hairstyle.
The new teaser for The Sandman season 2 confirms that three more of the Endless will appear in the Netflix adaptation, giving a glimpse of the show's upcoming plots.
