Before His Trial, someone tried to poison Lando.
The new preview shows that the gas was given by a basic gonk droid, hence someone inside the Rebellion most certainly planned the Assassination attempt. The only Rebellion member who has showed Lando actual scorn and resentment during his trial is General Crix Madine. In previous issues, Madine freely informed Lando that, should his fate be decided upon, he would be thrown out an airlock. Though it is hoped the truth is more complicated, Madine naturally seems the most obvious culprit in this attempt at murder.
One may also argue that Advocate Georgio's timely arrival and poisoning could be a component of a more general plan Georgio is following. Georgio has previously proved to be quite creative in her attempts to raise her client's chances when Lando entered a guilty plea for his crime of giving Rebellion secrets to Jabba in order to preserve the life of his friend Lobot.
Star Wars reveals startling final chapter in Lando Calrissian's Redemption.
This piece serves as a preview for Star Wars #47.
Lando Calrissian's Rebellion redemption's last chapter is here, starting with a sinister turn in the official Star Wars chronology. Someone is trying to murder Lando ahead of his trial, which falls between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, most likely out of concern about the outcome being in his favor. Given this, it is a somewhat interesting wrinkle in what will be a pivotal turning point in Lando's journey from seductive con man to the appealing Rebellion general he creates in Return of the Jedi.
The Trial of Lando Will Finish with His Real Redemption
Given Lando's confirmed destiny as a Rebellion commander, the trial will indeed go in Lando's advantage and the Rebellion tribunal will most likely pardon his offenses given the overall outcome is already known. Still, this does not diminish the fascination of the fresh mystery of an attempted murder on Lando. For Lando's position as a real hero of the Rebellion in the Star Wars canon, this fresh character arc between movies has surely given new insights and more depth.
Marvel Comics will print Star Wars #47 on June 5.

Lando is napping in his imprisonment soon before his trial in the new preview for Marvel's official Star Wars #47 by Charles Soule and Madibek Musabekov. Lando saved Mon Mothma from mercenaries who had kidnapped the Rebellion leader in the last issue; only Lando knew where their safe shelters were. Lando has returned to the Rebellion willingly and communicated his conviction in the cause with Mothma; so, the chances seem to be in Lando's advantage before his sentence. That might be the reason, though, as the fresh teaser shows his cell starts to fill with deadly gas.
Should Lando's attorney and her droid not have been on their way to check on him, Lando would have died before the events of the first Star Wars trilogy.

Calrissian would have perished before the events of the last movie in the original Star Wars trilogy had Lando's lawyer and her droid not been on their way to check on Lando.
