Superman & Lois season 4 is already intense and those first two episodes kicked things off by killing off Superman! That leaves episode 3 with some big shoes to fill; setting up those things needed for this season to really proceed forward effectively and delivering equally stunning and surprising new plot elements, while delivering major moments. The episode does not fail here. There's massive twists, intense drama and a shocking sacrifice!

Superman’s death has major repercussions–particularly impacting the Department of Defense who ask Steel (John Henry Irons) and Starlight (Natalie Irons) to take over. That father-daughter duo, originally planning to move to Metropolis, agree, and are thrown directly into an intense situation; and must decide whether to protect that city from those emerging threats which threaten the very survival of the world itself! And that instantly puts them in danger. It also brings intense peril because Lex Luthor, having previously been vanquished and his plans to undermine the family having failed is coming back with an army that can directly attack that military facility; highlighting how his previous plans might not necessarily have been fully thwarted at all!

Jonathan Kent's Superpowers: A Shocking Revelation!

This is a surprise: Jonathan Kent gets his Kryptonian powers! After an emotional breakdown about Superman’s death, that extreme stress awakens those dormant abilities! Jonathan now boasts x-ray vision, super-healing, and flight! This development really takes a big impact – the viewers knew this was never expected to occur, with prior events specifically establishing the impossiblity of Jonathan getting those abilities; making this massive reveal incredibly stunning!

This creates problems as well. Jonathan’s rapid skill acquisition makes Jordan feel jealous; highlighting how different their abilities truly are – adding complexity! General Lane's immediate attempt to recruit Jonathan for military work creates additional friction, especially combined with Jonathan's own lack of total control over his new abilities, demonstrating that he would struggle with some early decisions – these will be resolved later.

Lex Luthor's Cruel Game: Turning Jordan Against Lois

Remember Lex Luthor? He already launched a devastating plan (killing Superman and forcing Lois to choose which child to save; Lois chooses Jonathan!). General Lane's Heroic Sacrifice: A Gift for Superman?

General Lane survived those initial encounters–and makes for an equally important but eventually sad chapter here; because he dies in episode 3. Lex Luthor threatens him into revealing Elizabeth’s location (calling through an agent– this illustrates a well-designed plotline!); yet the General refuses and, tragically dies– shot and then having his neck broken by Doomsday. This shows a level of devotion and bravery rarely seen; further highlighting those extremely intense challenges in later installments. And he doesn’t really die in vain!

Just before his demise, the general uses Superman's blood to prepare a serum and injects it himself – suggesting that Superman's heart can be replaced with his. His death's far more meaningful; a final selfless act in his efforts to protect those he deeply cares about– namely, Lois.

Episode 3 of season 4 was intense, packed with major twists that will create further interesting consequences.
