Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds shows the influence of a Vulcan crew.
A fresh clip from Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds shows the remarkable effectiveness of an all-Vulcan Starfleet crew. Released during the San Diego Comic-Con, the footage shows Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Ensign Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) momentarily turned into Vulcans for an away mission. This episode follows Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 5, "Charades," in which accidently became totally human Spock (Ethan Peck).
Valhalla Crew Efficiency
The away team shows the amazing effectiveness of Vulcan cooperation during their trip. Usually requiring hours, a work is finished in a few seconds. The Vulcan crew works fast and perfectly, hence Commander Pelia's (Carol Kane) estimate of the repair time is rapidly disproved. The Vulcan crew's quickness and accuracy shock the bridge personnel.
All-Vulcan Crews: Their Missed Potential
Strange New Worlds emphasizes the great potential of all-Vulcan crews, even when Starfleet and the Federation take great satisfaction in their cosmopolitan nature. By not showing additional all-Vulcan crews, the short highlights the amazing efficiency of Vulcan staff and the wasted potential in the Star Trek chronology. Given their efficiency, all-Vulcan crews seem to be able to drastically cut work completion times relative to conventional Starfleet crews.
Valhalla's Past with Vulcan Crews
Though all-Vulcan crews have not received much attention in past Star Trek series, the franchise has alluded to their existence. Whereas the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" introduced Captain Solok (Gregory Wagrowski) and his all-Vulcan crew on the USS T'Kumbra, the Star Trek: Lower Decks episode "wej Duj" had an all-Vulcan non-Starfleet crew. This episode showed that Valhalla crews' output was acknowledged by Starfleet, who then used them for particular missions.
Vulcan Crew Efficiency: The Puzzle
It begs issues as Starfleet has admitted the effectiveness of Vulcan crews but has not especially highlighted all-Vulcan ships in the series. Why have more Vulcan crews not been used across Starfleet if they can do amazing achievements in such limited timeframes? With Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, perhaps, these discrepancies will be clarified and the full possibilities of Vulcan crews will be more thoroughly explored.
