One of the major events in the chronology of Star Trek: Picard has far-reaching effects on the character of Zero in Star Trek: Prodigy. Although Prodigy frequently finds inspiration in Star Trek: Voyager, its second season reveals startling links to Star Trek: The Next Generation and Picard including the presence of Wesley Crusher and the echoing impact of the Romulan evacuation and Mars Attack.
"Ascension, Part 1," episode 15 of Prodigy season 2, emphasizes the terrible consequences of the Mars Attack for Zero. The episode shows Zero's ambition for an Android body, driven by their first encounter with a corporeal form. Zero's hopes are dashed, though, by the Federation's ban on synthetic life directly resulting from the Mars Attack. Adopted soon after the attack, the ban essentially closes the synthetic program of the Daystrom Institute, so stopping all android research and development. Zero, who had been looking at getting a synthetic body to replace their containment suit, suffers greatly from this.
Zero's dream is not totally extinguished even with the setback. Once Romulan intrusion in Starfleet was discovered, the synthetic ban was finally lifted in the 25th century. This incident, shown in Picard season 1, opens Zero's future hope of an Android body. But for Zero who has already tasted corporeal life, this opportunity is almost twenty years in the future, a major delay.
Early in 2380s, Zero sets off his voyage in Prodigy. Zero will probably have become a high-ranking member of Starfleet by the time the ban is lifted, making it simpler to find an android body like the one Picard acquired. Although the waiting is certainly terrible, it finally gives Zero the chance to reach their ideal corporeal shape. Though first a setback, the tragedy of the Mars Attack finally gives Zero a gripping arc that emphasizes their tenacity and will against hardship.
Among the animated repertory of Star Trek, Prodigy is unique as the first series especially targeted at children. After fleeing the Tars Lamora prison colony, a group of young aliens find the USS Protostar—a stolen Starfleet ship. Under the direction of a holographic Captain Kathryn Janeway, this newly acquired crew sets out to return to the Alpha Quadrant and alert the Federation of a developing threat.
Following his retirement to his family vineyard, Star Trek: Picard brings viewers back to Patrick Stewart as the venerable Jean-Luc Picard. Trying to deal with the loss of Data and Romulus's destruction, Picard finds himself inadvertently pulled back into Starfleet. Seven of Nine, Geordi La Forge, Worf, and William Riker—among other well-known Star Trek universe characters—form a cast that evokes nostalgia while delving into fresh and intriguing narratives.
