With his augmented intellect, one would expect Dr. Julian Bashir to have used his knowledge to defeat the Dominion, but in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's "Statistical Probabilities," Bashir supports his fellow Augments – Jack, Lauren, Patrick, and Sarina – in the conclusions of their analysis: The Federation will lose the war.
It seems as though Bashir is willing to simply accept their pessimistic findings instead of using his mind to think of solutions: Dr. Bashir believes – from his position as a doctor – that there is a 900 billion life loss if the Federation surrenders to the Dominion: Despite this finding, his character remains hopeful for the outcome. In this particular moment, Bashir is simply acting on those conclusions as he chooses not to seek a more positive outlook for the Federation in this particular moment, it was surprising for viewers. The biggest cast of characters from all of those Trek series, they will be essential for the Dominion War, and yet, it seems like Dr. Bashir chose not to contribute as his own role – in a much larger scheme.
Did Star Trek: DS9 Lose The Dominion War Due To Dr. Bashir's Negative Attitude?
Star Trek: DS9 won the war - against the Dominion, as the Federation and its allies (including the Klingons and the Romulans) would later join forces with the Federation. While Dr. Bashir might not have been a significant force - in a traditional sense, he was a key member of those important characters - he would go on to make those key contributions: From the perspective of a doctor. He played a vital role in treating both those crew members who fought on the front lines, and those individuals who were often the first to encounter new, challenging, medical cases. This meant that Dr. Bashir, in many ways – he was one of the most influential characters as he had the power to make a critical impact on the outcomes of this series – this is where Dr. Bashir, as a doctor would shine.

While those augment characters (Dr. Bashir and, those other key Augments - who were introduced to audiences) they were all a force to be reckoned with, and would help contribute: But it was their minds - and their abilities to understand science. Augments played a vital role in helping the Federation find ways to survive - and even potentially find a path to victory - it would be a critical outcome as they attempted to understand those scientific secrets.
But, while those events would take place throughout this series - it wasn’t always a success. Augments often played an important part, but often it seems as though there were obstacles, and those tragic outcomes that could occur. The story - it was not all about the war effort - but about a series that explored a different kind of war and those series - that is focused on the internal conflict that could be faced, particularly those moments when someone who has been trained to do one thing, needs to make choices which are much harder than they appear.

The Dominion war had an impact on Dr. Bashir’s character development as it forced him to confront, to reconcile with his identity and those issues that he would have to deal with.
