The heart of the Veil in Imogen and Adilah's relationship

Many reviews of The Veil mentioned the sequences emphasizing solely Moss and Marwan as the strongest feature of the thriller series. With twists and counter-twists, the narrative veers toward what is expected of the genre, even if it loses that once primary relationship as it proceeds. For Adilah, it returns in an unexpected ending though. However, it's all the more heartbreaking as viewers have made investments in Adilah and Imogen's relationship.

Written by Knight, the last episode, "The Cottage," has Damon Thomas directing and shows Adilah dying just near safety. She is shot by a henchman, so a victim caught in the power struggle Imogen is surrounded by. Though she gives Imogen the information she needs, Adilah is unable to see her daughter again. Startled by how much she really cares about the lady she spent so much time with, Imogen breaks down.

The Veil Ending: Elisabeth Moss's Explanation for Adilah's Shockful Fate

Elisabeth Moss, the Veil star, describes the somber death at the end of the espionage series. Steven Knight, who also wrote and produced Peaky Blinders, focuses on a perilous game of truth and deception between MI6 agent Imogen Salter (Moss) and accused terrorist Adilah El Idrissi (Yumna Marwan) in six-episode FX on Hulu. But obstacles abound and a more intimate friendship grows as they traverse the globe. The Veil's cast also consists in Dali Benssalah, Josh Charles, and Thibault de Montalembert.

Moss spoke on Adilah's death in an interview with Variety following The Veil conclusion. After losing Adilah, the two-time Emmy-winning Moss—who also serves as executive producer on the FX/Hulu show—tipped what Imogen might have in store. Fellow producer Denise Di Novi also provided her viewpoint, so illuminating the intricate interaction among the main players. Here are their quotes:

Imogen wanted to do right by Adilah, but as the narrative developed her own personal relationships seemed to take front stage and her purpose always came first.

This is a clever analysis of the genre more generally as well as the show. Imogen tried to do right by Adilah, but as the narrative went on her own personal relationships seemed to take front stage and her purpose always came first. Adilah's daughter Yasmin is consequently without her father. Though Imogen saves the day and even helps The Veil set itself up for season 2, it doesn't feel like a total success for her.

The Veil: An Examining View of the Show

Moss: oh God. To be honest, I believe it is one of those things you can never really bounce back from. Imogen is not the first time she has come close to someone; she is rather excellent at what she does. And most definitely not the first time she has to appease someone to uncover the truth about any case she is working on. For her, though, I believe Adilah is unique. They do grow close; there is a strong bond between these two spirits.

I'm not sure whether I should be speculating on a future not yet written, but I doubt she will bounce back from this. She will not be able, in my opinion, overcome this error and loss. She might be quite adept at handling such kinds of events, but I'm not sure how you proceed from this. It ought never to have happened. She is all she wants in the world; I believe she really thought she was going to save Adilah and bring her back to see her daughter. I thus don't think you come back from losing her and failing in that sense.

"The Veil": An Interpretive View of Future

Di Novi: I agree; strangely, the unmet love stories are always the best ones. The sad ending does, in my opinion, highlight the sort of life Imogen has chosen to live. Her objective was to obtain this data, but as Lizzie just mentioned, reuniting Adilah with her daughter and preserving her became equally vital. Her life is what she does, though, and ultimately she performed the task assigned to her perfectly. She must now keep on.
