How should Will's absence be handled in *Criminal Minds: Evolution*?
Will has had a major part to perform in the series despite only ever appearing as a recurrent character throughout the show thanks to his friendship with JJ. The couple's two sons also underscore the significance of their relationship over the span of the play. Though a lot of time was spent honing the pair's on-screen presence appears to have formally come to an end. It remains to be seen how the loss of the character will be handled ahead.
The most likely situation is that his absence from the show will be more clearly addressed in *Criminal Minds: Evolution* season 3 since this will help the present narrative stay in focus. Though subsequent Season 2 episodes could make some reference to where he is and what he is doing, Messer's indication is that the story's present focus wouldn't justify him being addressed very often. Given that he is JJ's husband, it would be strange for him to go through the entire season without being acknowledged at some time, though.
Criminal Minds: Evolution Showrunner Erica Messer Talks on Character Departure for Season 2
Showrunner of *Criminal Minds: Evolution, Eric Messer, has talked on a major character departure in Season 2 and how the program would have to deal with the later on departure. Relying on serial killer Elias Voit to help them capture another killer known as Gold Star, everyone at the BAU is on great alert for the next season. But *Criminal Minds: Evolution* also saw Josh Stewart leave, who had been regularly present as JJ's husband Will since season 2 of the original program.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Messer noted Will's absence in *Criminal Minds: Evolution* season 2 and said a deal would not be possible to bring Stewart back. The Showrunner clarified that although his absence won't affect the present plot, it will have to be addressed by the time season 3 starts. Please find what Messer said below:
The Criminal Minds Plot: Evolution
The FBI's greatest team of criminal profilers, in *Criminal Minds: Evolution*, meets its toughest test yet: a UnSub who has established a serial killer network using the epidemic. As the globe opens and the network starts to run, the crew must individually locate these offenders. Among the original cast members that return are Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster. Zach Gilford makes a season-long guest star in a recurring capacity on the cast.
From its initial broadcast, the show has drawn a lot of viewers. This has been a long-standing trend partly because of the show's amazing narrative, superb character development, and skilled ensemble. One of the most amazing qualities of the show is its capacity to investigate human nature and the dark sides of the mind.
Season Two Ending of the Show
Simultaneously, though, the ending of *Criminal Minds: Evolution* season 2 reveals that the ensemble cast's focus might not be sufficient to mention someone not directly engaged in the narrative. The show most likely lacks time to adequately investigate Will's absence given the significant cliffhanger around what Voit said to Luke. Still, his absence will eventually have to be addressed, ideally in a way that maintains the rapport he developed with JJ over their run on the show.

Solving the Problem: Will's Leave
"That's about all I know; we tried to negotiate but it didn't work out. The way this season has gone, it's quite a fast ball. Two weeks separate [the seasons], and this season is like a bullet train. This season is not truly problematic, but we will have to admit that in some sense going forward is different. We had no intentions to write him out, hence we will have to admit that should we have future seasons.
