“Shark Tank” on ABC features entrepreneurs as they seek investments for unique products. Season 16 Episode 8 showed four different businesses looking to secure deals with the sharks and each presented interesting products to view.
Bro Glo was presented by Jaron, Tom and Joe, the founders seeking a deal of $200,000 for a 5% stake. Their company produced a water-based tanner product specifically for men that they promoted to have an easy to apply non greasy feel for use on all types of skin tones. They showed they are a very fast growing company by showing sales from their launch. Ultimately they decided to take a deal that gave both investment and support from notable investors.
Nancy and Ronnie Pritchett pitched TripleLite, a unique patented flashlight that offered a light span of 180 degrees by providing three separate LED lights in front on the left and right for safety. The pair asked for $400,000 for 10% equity and made it clear that they had the business but did not take on full direction until a major business deal tested them. They did however take a deal that could be mutually beneficial from both investors who supported the brand's capabilities.
Kristina presented Hiccup a cup rental service aiming to decrease waste from single use cups at racing events, seeking an investment of $200,000 for 10% of her business. Although the mission is a strong one none of the investors were interested making for an interesting look at how good intentions might not be enough for success.
Joseph and Anh, were seeking $500,000 for 10% equity with their business, PhoLicious a traditional instant vietnamese soup. All the sharks enjoyed the food while their business model and their story as entrepreures made them a viable option and swayed an offer from an unlikely investor for the popular soup and innovative approach to sales.
Many aspects of Shark Tank are common between many presentations. Some being more important for investment than others but here is how these were portrayed in season 16 episode 8.
“Shark Tank” shows viewers that success can be born from new ideas along with seeing how the sharks consider how products might shift from small operations to more well-known services. All the companies gave insight into filling a need or a void in their unique approach. Those that took a deeper dive into those core concepts were noted as potentially viable in the long term for financial opportunities.
All entrepreneurs coming in front of the shark’s need a clearly defined plan of how their business makes money and the people in charge need to demonstrate business savviness. Often times if all components are not in alignment then an investor is unlikely to take a chance which was true with some in episode 8.
A consistent line up of "sharks" makes an appearance with new faces from time to time. As this dynamic works to enhance the level of diversity they still create challenges for one another as it plays out for each segment.
Season 16 featured original sharks Mark Cuban Lori Greiner Kevin O'Leary Robert Herjavec and Daymond John with Danie Lubetzky filling in. That balance made for strong points that both supported and challenged new opportunities and each person contributed a unique aspect to make or break a possible new deal.
